Subject: Is there a sound board or something similar that you use for your wargaming?
I recently played a game of 40k at my LFGS while an employee was playing Titanfall. Since the speakers were hooked onto the flat screen we got to hear all the wonderful sounds of combat going on in the game. This also had the side effect of making my 40k game seem more interesting with all those explosions and gunfire, so that got me thinking if I should use a sound board or something to play alongside my 40k games.
So long story short, does anyone know any battlefield audio or something along those lines? Preferably sci fi for my request, but fantasy-based sounds are welcomed too. I'm sure there are some people who will also appreciate your generosity. Many thanks in advance.
You are both rational and emotional. You value creation and discovery, and feel strongly about what I create. At best, you're innovative and intuitive. At worst, you're scattered and unpredictable.

Movie and video game soundtracks are pretty regular (Dawn of War and Starcraft soundtracks being good go-tos) but I've found when there's a game or movie on in the background it can be distracting. However, I've played Rourke's Drift games with Zulu on in the background, or medieval games with Army of Darkness in the background too. They weren't every day "show up with army list" type games though.
Thinking back, I did once play a big urban combat 40k scenario, and a few minutes before it started I booted up the first Call of Duty and went to the Stalingrad level, hiding in a foxhole while the ambient sounds of combat went off. That was actually reasonably cool.

I use sound effects all of the time in various games. Two things: Audacity and Freesound.org.
Audacity is freeware sound editing software that is pretty user friendly for a freeware program. The free version allows you to export as a .wav file, which is usually just fine for ambient sounds. Freesound.org has a ton of user-uploaded sound files. You can find lots of great stuff on Freesound, all free to download and use. If you can't find a pre-made sound file for what you want, you can piece something together in Audacity.
There's also lots of ambient video game music that you can download for free. I have a large extant collection of ambient sounds and I haven't gone looking in years, so I can't recommend any sites off the top of my head. I remember a while ago Steam released the Dawn of War II soundtrack for free, for example, which obviously has pretty good 40K sounds.
I use the Cyanide Blood Bowl sounds when playing Blood Bowl on the table top. I run the sound effects off my iPad. You can run an ambient crowd loop from the game and punch tracks when you score or make big plays.

Also, a good resource is Youtube, seriously. Pretty much every album of music ever released has been uploaded there by somebody. Just search "Dawn of War soundtrack" or "Gladiator soundtrack" or what have you, and you'll usually find either a playlist or an hour+ long video with all the music from that. Create a playlist with a couple of those and you're golden.
Alternately, search a game title and then "longplay" and you should be able to find someone playing a game without any narration, like you typically would with a Let's Play. Just hearing the sounds of Mechwarrior or Battlefield or what have you might put you in the mood too.

This is how we roll. We have a good playlist set up on youtube. Only problem we run into is the commercials break the mood too often.
Next game day I'm getting the soundtrack from The Rock.
