Hey guys, I haven't played DE since 4th and am looking to making a return to collecting again, starting with a simple 1000 point list.
Help/Criticisms appreciated!
HQ
Baron Sathonyx
and
17x Hellions and Helliarch w/ agoniser
Haemonoculus w/ Liquifier Gun
and
4x Wracks on a Venom w/ extra Splinter Cannon
TROOPS
2x groups of 5x Warriors on a Venom, both w/ extra Splinter Cannons
HS
2x Ravagers, both with 3x Dark Lances
My idea was to have a shooty list with one good assaulting unit (and everything counts as scoring).
I'll just be playing this at a club level and will have limited $$ to buy models, so I want the list more or less worked out before I commit to buying anything.
Again, help/criticisms wanted!
Cheers!

Baron with 25 Khymerae is a good assault unit
Helions are a bit meh, not really all that good, use the Helion models are Beastmasters
I would try and get a Blaster in each of the Warrior Squads, you have hardly any anti tank at the moment.
Dont upgrade unit commanders if you dont need to as for the points cost its not worth it.

A 4 man wrack squad is a little too light to really achieve anything at 1000pts outside of holding backfield objectives. Hellions are a little iffy, that being said if they are going to work then it is in large squads like that. Just bear in mind that we have other options for Assault which can hit harder. But otherwise, it's pretty decent. Lotta anti Vehicle, decent anti infantry. The only thing that bothers me is lack of troops, three five man squads is incredibly easy to wipe. Particularly since you are DE. Maybe add just a few more bodies, or add another Haemonculi to get FNP on one squad.

First off - play what you want to play. This list is decent. You have four troops - which gives you a ton of flexibility that other armies won't have. Unfortunately, they are fragile.
The Baron is a great HQ for the buffs he gives squads. Hit and Run is awesome, as are a lot of other things about him. Unfortunately, Hellions go down way too quickly (in my opinion). A big chunk like this helps them be viable, but it takes up a lot of points in a list like this.
If it were me, I'd replace the Baron with an Archon. Give him a Huskblade and Shadow Field. In those missions where you need to take down a HQ - he's your best shot. I'd load him up in a Raider with your Haemonculi and Wyches. It's a strong core unit, with FNP, and it can be your assault squad.
The Ravagers and Venom Warrior Squads are awesome. You might even want to add more Warriors. At 110 points or so, you can fit in a bunch.
This is all off the top of my head, but something like this could be fun.
Archon (Shadow Field, Huskblade, Soul Trap)
8 Wyches (Haywire Grenades)
Haemonculus (Liquifier Gun)
Raider (Dark Lance)
Warriors (5) in Venom x 4
Ravager (Triple Dark Lance) x2

Okay - going away from the original list that I wrote, would something like this be better?
HQ
Duke Sliscus
and
9x Warriors mounted on a raider (dark lance) with Splinter Wracks and 1x Splinter Cannon in the squad.
TROOPS
3x groups of 5x Warriors on a Venom, both w/ extra Splinter Cannons and 1x blaster in each.
HS
3x Ravagers, both with 3x Dark Lances each.
total: 1001 points
A lot more anti tank, more or less the same amount of scoring units but no assault units this time.
(I don't really feel comfortable taking 1 squad of Wyches, I feel they're too squishy. If I was to take Wyches I would want at least 2 squads, but IMO at 1000 points I'd be taking too much of a hit to my firepower and Wyches are a lot easier to take down than mounted Warriors)
Again - help/criticisms!
Cheers!

Sadly, you can't take a Splinter Cannon in a Kabalite Warrior squad of 9.

I like the revisions. Sliscus is my favorite HQ. I agree that Wyches are squishy. I usually only play them in armies with Sliscus due to the bonus with Combat Drugs. Even so, Warriors are the better choice in this edition.
You need to drop the Splinter Cannon from the Raider unit, as pointed out above.
I've got mixed feelings on the Blasters in the Warrior squads. I used to take them all the time, but have found that I need to move my Venoms 12" pretty often....which ruins my shooting ability.
If you lost the blasters, the splinter cannon and a Ravager, it would give you 160 points or so. That would be enough for a nice beast pack. 3 Beastmasters, 5 Khymerae and 4 Razorwing flocks.

Ah, I forgot about that, thanks!
Going on from the idea to drop the ravager and blasters - would the anti-tank hit be worth taking the Beast squad?
I thought that the more anti-tank the better, but I also have no idea how much armour other armies can put out at 1000 points. (plus I haven't played since 4th ed!)
I do like the look of the beast squads (model and stat wise) so I think including them could be fun!

I guess it depends on your local armies. I think that at 1000 points, 7 Dark Lances should be sufficient.
I think Beast Packs are a lot of fun. They eat up a lot of shots, and tend to scare people quite a bit. It's hard to ignore them, as they come at you really fast.
If you switch out Sliscus for the Baron, you give yourself 45 more points, give the pack stealth, hit & run, and a +1 to going first. The Baron also hits at Strength 5 on the charge, which has popped lots of Rhinos for me in the past.
I feel your revised list with Sliscus is very safe. I just know that beast packs tend to be very powerful. You may want to proxy some in games to test it out both ways. If you ever play with Eldar allies, stick a Farseer in there for all kinds of fun.

I guess I'll build the core of the list, play a few games with proxies and see what I'll go with.
Thanks for all the help!
Cheers!
