Hello fellow Dakkadakkians once again! After picking up my copy of the Astra Militarium book yesterday and having a chance to look through it I have to say overall I am happy with the new book, even if they two things I wanted most (return of doctrines and plastic Steel Legion) did not happen. Because of the contents of the new book I have decided to focus my remaining efforts for my Elysian Drop Troops on the Militarium Tempestus book and FW's Imperial Armor Volume 3 Second Edition and construct a new IG army out of Astra Militarium and potentially another FW book so I could "double dip" with the same army. I am wanting to build a Mechanized/Armored Division to counteract my Air Cav/Airborne Elysians and currently trying to decide which regiment to run and the choices are the following:

Spoiler:
-43rd Irrland Rangers: A homebrew Regiment where I will be using purely the new Scion models to represent my standard IG soldiers, most likely Veterans. Will be utilizing the following conversion for all my Chimeras: http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?16443-Chapterhouse-studios-rapid-response-Chimera-Conversion to give my entire army a "Modern" Mechanized look. Fluff would be based around an Elite Shock Troops style of army, to represent the extra armor and such.

-21st Steel Legion "Ash Wolves": Basically a Steel Legion Regiment, however I will only ever run this Regiment sadly if they ever decide to come out with plastic Steel Legion, or if I am wanting to run these guys bad enough, run purely Death Korps Engineers models to represent the Steel Legion. Would expand this army utilizing Imperial Armor Volume 1 Second Edition to add some more tanks and really give it a Steel Legion feel.


Other then that this is my very first attempt at putting together a list from Astra Militarium and I want this list to be competitive so please any thoughts, comments or ideas are more then welcome and encouraged, thanks for posting!

Tactics:

-x3 Leman Russ Demolishers and x1 Punisher providing a solid wall of fire with a Squadron and x2 individual tanks to spread out the amount of fire and targets I can focus on. The Primaris Psyker will follow Pask's Squadron around and give them Twin Linked making his Rending Punisher Cannon even more nasty.

-x5 Chimeras moving forward pumping shots downfield while the troopers inside are kitted out to deal with anything that may come their way with Meltas and Heavy Flamers. All have Grenadiers to make them a little more durable against both Space Marines and Tau.

-The Vendetta is my primary anti-air while also providing some additional anti-tank for the rest of my army.

-x2 Wyverns hang back pummeling my opponent with artillery fire, will be particularly useful against the few Tau players at my FLGS

I just faced eldar and dark eldar lists today and WISHED my two battlecannon russes (battlecannon & heavy flamer) were exterminators. The exterminator can put to hurt on everything, no one is really taking much armour 13/14 besides other guard and some marine lists. The battle cannon I've found is too narrow purpose, its only good for killing 3+ save infantry.

Looks like a solid list, however I would only consider maybe giving one or two squads Plasma Guns instead of Melta because you can never go wrong with some AP2 here and there. As for you heavy slots, Personally I think either Regular LRBT are the way to go as they give you a nice range and AP3 can kill most things in the game, but if you want, maybe squeeze the points somewhere to run Demolishes instead, as you can never go wrong with S10, AP2 Ordnance.

Thanks for the advice guys, I have updated the above list to include Demolishers with Multi-Melta to side sponsons to make them more effective verse monstrous creatures and armor, do you think I should keep the Primaris Psyker? And any other comments or ideas regarding this list? been awhile since I've tried to build a Mech Vet army so any ideas are appreciated.
