So I'm still not sure what happened at the FLGS last night. I was sitting there minding my own business playing my Bart+Galleon list and all of a sudden I was at the counter buying the Legion of Everblight battle box..

I guess I play legion now too. I have no idea what I'm doing with them so help a brother out. What should I be picking up for these cats?

A Forsaken is a great first buy to supplement the battle box. It is a two point fury management solo.

After that it depends on whether you want to stick with Lylyth or branch out into another caster. For my wife, she plays Abby as her main caster so I bought more Forsakens, some Sheppards, and a LOT of beasts.

Do you want to copy Jake?

Even if you don't, I think you have to ask yourself whether you want to: A) Shoot stuff or B)punch stuff.

The answer to A) is usually ravagores, teraphs, striders, death stalkers, raptors and the raptor solo.

The answer to b) is get a bunch of the warspears (medium based unit in the 2 player battle box) for cheap off ebay. Get their AMAZING UA, twice. Also get either Thags1 or Thags2 plus at least one scythean.

Welcome to the dark side. Couple of things you should consider are shepherds, spawning vessel, legionnaires, 2/3ravgptes, angelius. Caster wise, epic vayl is the strongest IMO and the tier list is excellent. Get a copy of that and use it to guide your purchases and you won't go far wrong

I'll add the Forsaken to the list.

I don't necessarily want to copy JVM, I just want to have a good understanding of what goes with what. I have already owned All the Khador, and All the Mercs, with a bit of Menoth and Trollbloods for good measure.
Ideally I want to have 2 good 50pt lists. I'm thinking eLylith and eThags but I can always be swayed from this.

Go with the gimmicky but probably not too awesome shredder-spam list. Do it. Do it for the children.

Well......If its for the kids.....

I think the best first move is going to be picking up the card pack in warroom and going over what all they can do. I'm thinking one shootty list and one get in your face and beat your silly arm 20+ stuff off my table.

Lots of Warbeasts and a shepherd to handle fury is my guess.

Welcome to Legion!

To start out, the battlebox is fine and you'll eventually get 2 forsaken and 2 shepherds. Run Shepherds with Ravagores (they are best friends) and forsaken with your more melee oriented beasts since they can pull the fury off from further away.

Get one Ravagore, Scythean, Angelius. We often double up, but until you really have a firm grasp on our stock of great beasts I'd stick to variety over doubles. I tend to favor double Ravagores and Angels with a few lists with Scytheans.

For our heavies, in order to be more cost effective and more flexible in list building, get 2-3 plastic kits and magnetize them, so you can how swap different chassis as you choose.

For infintry, I'd stick with Legionnaires, Spawning vessel, and Warspears+UA. Outside that it depends on what you want. Swordsmen hit hard and are our only single wound weapon masters, but they lack range (Spd 6 w/o reach). Striders+UA and Raptors are both amazing.

AVOID (At least to start): Grotesques, Archers, Scather Crew, Warmongers, Teraphs, Nephilim.

Shredders are amazing but get a pack of each type (Stingers and Harriers) and really get familiar with them. Feeding the Spawning vessel (Legos work great for this) and spawning just the right beast for the job can pull off a win that was otherwise unattainable.

Great starter casters: pThagrosh, pLylyth, Absylonia.

My plan was to get a plastic beast kit and magnetized them.

I'll be getting doubles of things. I hate plastic models (I know I'm old) and I pin like crazy.

Hah, you are not old. I buy my beasts direct from Privateer so I can still get them in metal. And I pieced together my battle box with two blisters of Shredders and pLylyth just so it could still be metal. I am in the same boat.

A fun little 25 pt list I've had fun running against my friends is pThags with a scythean, ravagore and carnivean. Not competitive at all, but fun to watch them scratch their head over which beast they don't want to kill twice.

The best part about her 50 point Tier 4 list is that it's relatively cheap to buy, it's a shade over $250 new, a friend at my fogs picked up,the entire list for $130 shipped off bartertown. The best part is that all of the models in it are legion staples, no 'crap' models for the sake of getting to the next tier.

I don't think age matters. I've been modeling and painting in some way or another for over 25 years. It is just personal preference. For me it is the simplicity of plastic.

I prefer light-weight models. And I like plastic because it is easier to cut, file, pin, clean, convert, etc. And lighter parts are also much easier to glue as they "stick" faster and the lighter weight doesn't pull them apart.

I suppose the metal models have better details in general, but I personally find that unless you are a high level painter that it doesn't really matter. The Great majority of the people I know and play with paint at tabletop quality or lower. A few finer details isn't going to matter when you are looking at models from 3' away.

There is no right or wrong answer, IMO. Its just preference. If there is a right or wrong answer I would say 'which is cheapest?' In general, cheaper prices make it easier for people to get into the game which is ultimately better for everyone as the company and community both grow.
