So I'm torn between two Lists to build up to since I started collecting my Ultramarines so Ive decided to throw it up here and see what you guys think.

The First List is all out drop pod.

HQ: Tigurius

Elites: 8 Sternguard Vet Squad in Drop Pod. Normal load out no fancy weapons on them, I want to take advantage of the special ammo, tiggy goes in here.

Troops: 6x10 man TAC squads in Drop Pods, each unit has one melta gun each with each sergeant having a combi Melta.

Heavy Support: 2 Thunderfire Cannons with Drop Pods, they'll start on the field, I'm just buying pods for them to reach 9 pods.

The second list is a little more complicating.

HQ: Tigurius

Troops: 4x10 Man TAC squads in Drop Pods, each unit has one melta gun each with each sergeant having a combi Melta.
1x10 Man TAC squad with a Melta and a combi melta- this squad will be going to the Stormraven Gunship.

Fast Attack: 2 Stormtalon Gunships, both with lascannons- They'll be escorting the Stormraven under there special formation rules from the dataslate.

Heavy Support: Stormraven Gunship, with multi-melta and assault cannons and a hurrican bolter.
2 Thunderfire cannons, one with a Pod and one without it.

So Im torn because I like both lists. One is truly a balls the the wall Drop Pod list but the second one feels more rounded out to deal with flyers.

The thing I'm stuck on is there weaknesses, the first list is all out but if I whiff my rolls real bad Ill be stuck out with nothing valuable coming in from reserves. The second list is more well rounded but I might not even survive my first round dropping in so few units.

What do you think Dakka? Which one is a better take all corners tournament list?

Given the choice, I’d go with the second.

I like tactical squads, but 6 is a little heavy on them for a list at this point level. If you are going null-deployment, flyers are a much better option for bringing firepower.

I’m not a fan of empty pods to boost the drop count. I’d rather shuffle things around and take something along the lines of a 5 man assault squad, rather then pay a 35 point tax to boost numbers.

Call me old fashioned, but I like heavies in tac squads still. 2/3 of the combat tactics will help shoot them on the move, and once you step out of the drop pod, there is a chance you will not be moving a while lot, so can shoot at full effect.

Second list with 1 exception,

Start the 1x10 in the thunderfires pod, if the raven gets killed with them in it, they will all probably die.
