I am both apprehensive and intrigued with this new prospect.
A little about my WHFB experience:
I played a full Tzeentch Daemon army at 2500pts in 7th Edition. It was OP. I didn't need any skill to use it and I do not take credit for being a good General, and the Lord of Change which got a re-roll each turn (70pt upgrade, very worth it), was tossing out 2d6 strength 4+d6 shots at anything while dancing around behind units to avoid getting charged). The power dice was stupid. The amount I had was ridiculous and I never lost a game. 8th Edition came around and killed this army's magic potential in comparison to 8th, but it was still very powerful. I lost a lot to Ogres and such. The Horde rule changed the game, but my magic was to be feared still. I sold it for Tomb Kings because I liked the Egyptian look more. In any case, I would love to see this mechanic in 40k. Call me bias.. but I like psykers already.
If 40k will soon reward maxing out your psykers, it'll be good. I see that being a problem for tournaments only because everyone will take Unbound to dominate the psychic phase with their _________ competitive army.
It is my opinion that this game is no longer for tournament play but that is another topic..
Ahriman and two units of Thousand Sons giving my army 6+d6 Warp Charge points? Not counting if I can add Fateweaver and a couple Heralds of Tzeentch for deep striking Flickering Fire. Plus any Pink Horrors I can summon from the new Daemonology discipline (if Thousand Sons models can even take it). Not to mention taking an Unbound army and running a single unit of 5 naked Level 1 Sorcerers for some Smite or Shriek goodness.
Wishful thinking, I know.. but I am excited for a chance to be actually rewarded for playing a fluffy Thousand Sons list.
