So as we prepare for the storm that is 7th edition 40K I am looking at other games that I may be interested in if I decide to bail on GW.

I bought a starter set for Warmachine a couple years ago with a friend and I went with the Menoth models. I also bought a arch node jack and a choir so where should I go from here?

Start right where you are seriously, small battlebox games are the best place to start learning the game, and you'll want to run through a few of them first, just to get the hang of controlling a battle group.

The choir are definitely a great addition after that, and perhaps consider getting a Vassal of Menoth (not to be confused with a Vassal Mechanik by the way), as these bit of jack support are central to making our jacks shine. That will get you to 25pts to practice with, if you have to 2 player Battle Box (or 15 pts with the single player). From there, you can start getting more infantry units (Errants, Zealots and Daughters of the Flame are excellent starts) and more jacks (a Reckoner kit is a good start) to expand.

I'd tell you more, but have to get to bed for the moment. Welcome to the faction, and the game

Looking for a club in Brisbane, Australia? Come and enjoy a game and a beer at Pubhammer, our friendly club in a pub at the Junction pub in Annerley (opposite Ace Comics), Sunday nights from 6:30. The basics of a Menoth list is usually 1-3 jacks (though Jack spam is possible) Choir, Vassal, infantry.

While menoth Jacks are solid (lots of boxes and good armor), they are low defense and slow, so they need the choir and vassel to take them over the top. Menoth Infantry is generally very solid, and doesn't need much dedicated support. There are lots of options depending on what caster your taking, and only cinerators are really underwhelming (which are in the 2 player box sadly, they aren't bad, they just compete with bastions at the same cost and role of multi wound infantry). The box comes with PKreoss: A very good support caster with a powerful feat. Knockdown makes it so that all your melee attacks auto hit and drops the def of enemy models so low that they pretty much get auto hit. The Pop and drop list is usually a ranged one, and can go for a surprise assassination by knocking down blocking models. Still, its also completely viable to just go for a massive army killing turn where you win the attrition battle. Menoth is very good at attrition.

Which brings me to the next "must buy" unit you should consider. Exemplar Errants. A full unit of these with their UA is annoyingly hard to deal with. Self sacrifice means you can bog enemies down with solid Mat weapon masters. The fact that they also have decent enough blessed crossbows makes them a very flexible force. Their UA gives them pathfinder, which is relatively hard to get in faction. If nothing else it lets you go after people hiding in terrain. In all, not many casters don't want these guys, so they are a solid buy.

From there you want probably another infantry unit of your choice (I like Knights, but then I love weapon masters). Depending on if you wish to stay with PKreoss or move to other casters will inform your decisions here. Almost all of the units are viable with the right caster.

Additional support units you should look into: Rhoven, Covenant, the Mercenary Gorman di Wulfe, and possibly eEiryss. These guys have the ability to mess with the enemy pretty effectively and provide a good mix of ways of saying "NO". Being strong is just part of the recipe for victory. Attacking the strengths of the enemy is the other part.

For a fifteen point game from the two-player starter set and the choir, you are good to get on the ball with that. Also, some difference to keep in mind in comparison to 40k:
1) The rule set is much tighter than Warhammer 40k, so most of the rules question will be easily looked up on the book and solved within a minute.

2) Unlike Warhammer 40k in most respects, Warmachine is more melee-oriented, aggressive, and fast-paced. Shooting is still a viable tactic, but the main focus is melee.

3) Information is key, and the measurements and that have to be spot on as it can change something major. In this way, this helps you prepare your moves and that. This is not major in the beginning for most things, but it is a thing to keep in mind.

With this in mind, if you do not mind this and/or like this then Welcome aboard to Warmachine! Please take your complementary Steampunk goggles and Vanquisher plushie. Some other early purchases that you should get is the Vassal of Menoth. This little sad sod is your second jack support, as it can get your jacks another shot with Ancillary attack, or can get it out in a jam with Enliven. For units, as everyone has said, Exemplar Errants and their UA are your next 'must buy', as this is a good tarpit unit which with its Self Sacrifice ability and the ability of the UA to give it Pathfinder, Quick Work, and the defense against enemy spells. Support models that go well with this unit as well is the mercenary Rhupert Carvolo, in which you can give them tough or +1 defense and terror. The Covenant of Menoth goes good as well as you stops your Errants from being knocked down. Other things to look for is what notabot187 said woth its support units and solos. I say stick with pKreoss until you get a good understanding with him, but if you are looking for another caster, your next best bet is pSeverius, as he is a beginner-friendly caster that buffs your army greatly and can throw some power spells like ashes to ashes around.

Sorry for the wall of text mate, but I hope I helped you out with this! Cheer!

Welcome to the IK man. Take your time and play a few battle box games to shake off the 40k differences (you have to get used to resolving each unit/model before moving to the next). I hope you find that a very tight game rules wise is more fun. leaving you more to worry about tactics and strategy. Please understand that you will lose quite a few games to start. Everything can be seen as "Cheesy" but everything in this game can be beaten and or killed.

Menoth is a great faction in that its got the ability to run Jack heavy or lots of infantry leaving you with lots of choices. The casters are pretty darn solid too.

Cool Cool thank you for all the info.

As far as casters go should I stick Kreoss? He seems very effective with his knock down ability. What are some other caster I should consider if not him?

That depends really. If you want another support caster like him, as I said before PSeverius, as he supports his army really well. pKreoss is still pretty damn good though because not only is his feat good for the pop-n-drop assassination, but he does denial and scenario pretty damn good as well, so I say give him a bit of a go before you decide he is not for you or until you get him down really well.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Welcome to the Protectorate. Here is your complimentary Menofix and Crusader Plushie. Harbinger or Feora Body pillows may be purchased for an additional $19.99+SH

Generally our top 5 Casters are Kreoss1(the one the starter set comes with), Severius1, Feora2, Harbinger, and Kreoss3. Just starting out, a good second caster would be Severius.

General Menoth Purchases beyond the Battle Box.

Reckoner Heavy kit to magnetize between Reckoner and Sanctifier(Castigator is overpriced for its cost)

Crusader heavy kit to magnetize between all 3 options. You could even add magnets to the jack kits you have currently.

Redeemer light jack. One of these guys, a Reckoner, and Vanquisher are the standard battle group for pKreoss Pop-n-drop. Feat on the enemy caster and shoot him with 3 pow14s, 1 pow15, and 1 pow16. Vassals can get you 2 more shots of your choice too. Almost no caster can survive this many shots to the face.

2 Vassals of Menoth.

Unit of Errants and the UA.

Heirophant solo(better focus effeciency)

Errant Seneschal solo

Wracks(free focus!)

Covenant of Menoth(AKA: The Book. Has 3 awesome abilities that synergize well with our style)

Gorman di Wulf(excellent merc tool box solo, Black Oil grenades singlehandedly win games)

Rhupert, the Piper of Ord(another great merc solo, he buffs our infantry up amazingly)

Now generally, there are only 3 casters in Menoth where you want an Arc node. either version of Severius and Kreoss3. And Severius wants his character Arc Node. This leaves Kreoss3 as the only caster who will find consistent use out of a Revenger.
