I put this up on Warseer, but I thought I would see what you guys thought about it as well. This list was designed around being fast and hard hitting. It has relitively few models and no markerlights in it, but I felt those would slow the list down.

First off I couldn't remeber if multitrackers on vehicles were 5 or 10 points, could someone help me there (my codex is not availible currently).

Now as you can see everything but my firewarriors hits on 3's or better, so the fact that there are no markerlights is alright. I realize I can't negate cover saves or lower leadership, but I'm alright with that. The list is built around speed. My suits would most likely accompany the firewarriors while my piranhas would harrass things or hunt hidden armor. The hammerheads do what they do best and if all armor is gone or not in LOS I can drop three submunition rounds a turn

5 below a marine

disruption pods and decoy launchers are not both needed, decoys should be fine, target locks aren't a must on the railheads as well

that would give you 40 points, increasefw by one(is that 11+shasui or including), dont put too many points into devilfish as they aren't scoring

I like the disruption pods since on a crew stunned result it can save my precious vehicles from being destroyed. Normally I wouldn't do this, but in a list driven so much on the vehicles surviving, I need as much protection as I can get.

The devilfishes are expensive, however I believe their aformentioned survivability and their firepower can help even the odds tremendously. I realize they are not scoring, but what they are carrying is so I want to make sure that they can effectively survive to protect their occupants.

Drop the devilfish cariers, as:

1) You've got enough smart missiles in the army anyway, and
2) Putting the firewarriors in a ride will make them start off-board in escalation, something you don't want in a Tau army.

Use the points you save to stock up on more Fire Warriors or maybe splurge on that 3rd pirhana in each squadron or some crisis suits for the team leaders.

Another idea is to take some marker or gun drones for the crisis suit guys, providing you're willing to give up the hardpoint for the controller.

Nice list.

However, you do have 17 points left over. Why not combine that with dropping bonding on your firewarriors to buy some decoy launchers on your piranhas? It can't hurt.

I disagree with this advice solely for the reason that it will actually be worse during escelation. If all you have is 24 firewarriors on the table (everything else is off) those guys are just dead meat. The devil-fish actually help in this case.

the hell they aren't

as a tau player you would be an idiot not to take disruption pods and decoy launchers, hell target locks and fletchette launchers are a must now as well.

the disruption pod at least gives you the 50/50 chance of getting a glance instead of a pen on turn 1, decoy launchers only work to negate an immobilized result, good but not as good as making everything glancing first.. target locks are also great on hammerheads-shoot the railhead at a tank and drop 4 seeker missles over a stand of trees and into an enemy troop unit.

to the original poster-multitracker is 10 points

i like your idea!

look in the tau armoured company post for my tank tau list at 1850

I've edited my list according to the points differences and dropped the bonding on the firewarriors, however this only leaves me with 7 points left. Decoy Launchers on the Piranhas are pretty worthless actually, for a fast open-topped vehicle it only increases their survivability marginally. If each of the fusion blaster squads takes out a tank then I'm happy and they have (most likely) earned their points back. The mounted firewarriors stay. First off it goes with the list and Jayden63 is right that they would die almost instantly in escalation.
