So I was at my local GW store here in Michigan talking about the upcoming Fall of Medusa Campaign. The topic turned to scary city fight armies, and this one Blood Angel player boasted that Blood Angels are the scariest army one can face in a city fight senario. When I disagreed, he challenged me to name a list that would inspire fear in all. This is what I came up with off the top of my head. 2000 points Space Wolves HQ 1- Venerable Dread, Plasma Cannon, Heavy Flamer, Extra Armor HQ 2-Wolf Priest with Bike, Healing Balms, Fang of Morkai, Wolf Tooth Necklace, melta bombs, wolf pelt. The way the current rules work, he can ignore the first two non-powerweapon/instant death wounds a big plus. HQ 3- Rune Priest with frostblade, rune staff, Chooser of the slain, Wolf tooth necklace, meltabombs, wolf pelt He will be using storm caller and nullifying other pesky psychic powers. Elites: Codex Space Marines Venerable Dread, Twin Linked Lascannon, Missile Launcher, Spotlight, Xtra Armor, Tank hunter Dread: Assault Cannon, Xtra Armor, heavy flamer Dread: Twinlinked lascannon, Xtra Armor, heavy flamer (At first both had assault cannons, but this matches my models) Troops: 10 Grey Hunters, bolters, 2 Powerfists, Plasma Gun 10 Grey Hunters, bolters, 2 Powerfists, Plasma Gun 10 Grey Hunters, bolters, 2 Powerfists, Plasma Gun Fast Attack: 8 Bloodclaw bikers, 2 Powerfists (ride with the wolf priest) Heavy Support: 3 Vindicators, extra armor, machine spirit, storm bolter, spotlight There are enough points left over for two landspeeders with meltas. Mostly, the idea of 3 templates falling every turn is what I would fear in this list. The idea would be to force people to charge into range, where the grey hunters would receive the charge and they and the rune priest would take them down. For mobile enemies the bikers and the landspeeders should be enough to force them into range of the tanks and dreads. The Wolf priest will make the bikers that much more resilliant since they can ignore 2 wounds a turn. For my local store, escalation is not often an issue, so you would start with everything on the board. So would this be a fun list to play, or is it too vehicle heavy?

getting those grey hunters some transportation to maximize true grit would be my first concern, and the hq's are a little expensive, the 3 vindi's will work only if you have other vehicles that look threatening, las dreads aren't that scary and land speeders are better when equipped w/ assault cannons for anti-everything. This list just doesn't have enough(except bike unit which would be horrifying) kick in a 2000 pt game it needs more longe range anti-tank, maybe a pred

by the way what store in michigan, west oaks(think thats  where it is now), or great lakes do you play at?

We were at West Oaks II.

I know this is not a min-maxed list. My goal was to create an unusual list that has the potential to cause serious problems for the average chaos demon prince/defiler/bezerker combo that I see so often. The added bonus is that it scared the one blood angel player too. I almost never see dreadnoughts or vindicators used in games at West Oaks, and most of the space wolf players are working on other lists until their Codex is rereleased.

With this list I have a bike squad with 2 powerfists and an I5 special character that ignores the first two wounds. Vindicators that only stop firing when the weapon or the tank is destroyed, and four dreadnoughts, one with a BS 5 plasma cannon and two with twinlinked las cannons. Two of the dreads are venerable, and I get a reroll on first turn.

Hive tyrants and demon princes will face heavy fire, and infantry units will take heavy template barrages. Hopefully anything that gets through will be too weak to defeat the grey hunters and the rune priest. Even if they reach him he gets to strike first thanks to storm caller.

The melta speeders are there in an attempt to compensate for my lack of dedicated anti tank, but it is a tough call between the heavy bolter/ assault cannon or the melta gun.

Of course my strategy requries my opponet to be trying to charge me. Tau and IG would be my hardest fight, I think. Against them I would always have the option of using the drop pod rules, since Space Wolves still get those for free.

I disagree about not having a knock out unit. My experience from playing IG and Space Wolves is that having many redundant forces makes casualties less an issue. My firepower wont be crippled by the loss of one tank or a dread. I can afford to expend a squad on a demon prince or flying tyrant without being crippled. Aside from my bike squad, i've got 3-4 of every unit, and they will wear down an attacker to the point where its easy prey for the other units.

I think the Paragraph Marines would be your most dangerous foe.

I would include an Inquisitor from the Ordo Grammaticus, but they arn't worth their points.
