After skimming Forum guidelines and suggestions this seems to be the best place for my
WIP Mammoth Tank conversion for my Imperial Guard.
So this post will be picture heavy. I will try to keep my text and descriptions to a minimum and let you enjoy the work thus far (if it tickles your fancy).
So I have seen several conversions of the famed Mammoth Tank MK1 from the computer game Command & Conquer. As good as many of these looked I felt they leaned far
40k in their execution than the C&C version. So I decided to take a crack at it. Before this project began my biggest conversion involved arm and leg swaps for Tyranids and I had 0 plasticard experience.
A bit of story as to why and how this project has evolved. In Command and Conquer when you are playing the campaign, when you first run into an enemy Mammoth Tank it was a beast. It could likely take on every unit you had already built (air and ground units) and still have enough health to harass your second wave. And that is the spirit I wanted to add to what already existed in
40k. Before I even bought anything I knew I wanted 2 Volcano Cannons, a whirlwind launcher and maybe a co-axial weapon. As I purchased to 2 baneblade kits necessary to start in on the project I quickly realized how poorly under gunned it was for Apocalypse scaled games for a vehicle of this size. As I started in on cutting and building the turret there was plenty of room on it to have a crew and additional weapons. I was able to add the turret rings from razorbacks and now I have interchangeable weapons for variants. As I began on building the hull there were plenty of extra sponsons for more fire power and enough room in front to add 2 vulcan mega bolters. It then kind of grew into an assault vehicle, just waltz it head on into an enemy strong point in a defense line and break it. Rules for it are being debated with my local
GW store so that it can be played in store and will become concrete once its painted and ready. Though several players say it should bristle with more weapons....I have always leaned for my models and projects to be more aesthetically pleasing.
I welcome any feedback and questions you might have. With the release of the Astra Militarium codex and 7th edition on the horizon I am scrambling to paint what models I have left, which means this project is perhaps a week or 2 out for further progress. As of 5-13-2014 I am actually greenstuffing gaps so I can sand smooth and continue adding armor and details.
Below are I guess you can say photos at various stages without putting too many on here. But I will put a link to the gallery for more.

Above: Is the turret taking shape next to a Shadowsword. The Autocannons were concept at this point.
Above: At this picture the turret is complete enough for me to eyeball and get a scale I like for the Hull. You can also see where I made cuts on the Baneblade sides to shorten them some.
Above: The baneblade is, in my opinion, very heavily influenced by German tanks while the Mammoth in Command & Conquer is of Soviet influence. And I tried my best to blend the two with the drivers cockpit lying between the mega bolters. (With a tank of this size unless in open terrain he would need ground guides anyways in addition to the machine spirit which I am sure is assisting.)
Above: This is a top view before the hull was where it is currently to give an idea of size comparison to a Shadowsword.
Above: This is about where it stands now (5-13-2014)
