Hiya so I am tinkering with a list I played today in my 15pt match, and while I did win I felt like I need to change it up which our league runner is letting us do, all but the caster can be changed.

Here's the list I used in my first game and won with. I really do love strakhov and his style of play.

System: Warmachine
Faction: Khador
Casters: 1/1
Points: 15/15
Kommander Strakhov (*6pts)
* Torch (10pts)
Assault Kommandos (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
* 1 Assault Kommando Flame Thrower (1pts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)

While I did win, the Pikemen and Torch pretty much did all the work, while the assault kommandos were eh. I am considering dropping torch for maybe a juggernaut, and the kommandos for greybears, and getting the ua for my pikemen.

Alternate list 1

System: Warmachine
Faction: Khador
Casters: 1/1
Points: 15/15
Kommander Strakhov (*6pts)
* Juggernaut (7pts)
Great Bears of Gallowswood (5pts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
* Black Dragon Officer & Standard (2pts)
Widowmaker Marksman (2pts)

So here I think I have decent coverage for armor cracking and infantry killing. The marksmen is honestly something i threw in just for the sake of 2 pts but I am also thinking of Kovnik, or i can take 2 dogs to camp on strakhov with.

Alternate list 2

Faction: Khador
Casters: 1/1
Points: 15/15
Kommander Strakhov (*6pts)
* Kodiak (8pts)
* War dog (1pts)
Great Bears of Gallowswood (5pts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
* Black Dragon Officer & Standard (2pts)

Here I changed out the jugg and solo option for a kodiak. and for the sake of the 1pt i added in a dog to camp and protect strakhov.

Basically both lists are about the same more or less but still not sure what option I should do. Any opinions?

I would go with the third list. Kommander Barkovich is a brilliant addition to the list and a Kodiak, while it is a bit pillow fisted for a Khadoran Jack, is much more useful that a Juggenaut because it can smash and grab.

Do you mean Kommander Harkevich, The Iron Wolf? I don't own him, and can't switch out the caster till the 4th week. However the only reason I was considering the Juggernaut was cause the Ice Axe is an amazing weapon. Week 3 is when we get to 25pts, so I should have some breathing room for getting what I want in.

Nope, Kommander Barkovich is a dog. My apologies for not being clear.

The Ice axe is amazing, even better when you get a critical off. But I find the Kodiak is better pound for pound, but I'm a little bit biased because I use Butcher so I get to boost everything.

That's because nobody expects the Khadoran Assault Kommandos!

The Assault Kommandos are a little bit different to play then a simple point and click infantry. You have to play them in combo with another unit. The main goal for the Assault Kommandos is to debuff the ennemy with their strangle gas, then charge in melee. Don't think their carabine will clear the map... for that there is the Winter Guard and Kovnik Joe!

Unless you fight a non-living model, try to spread your unit a little bit than shoot you strangle gas before a charge. That strangle gas is the key to what make them worth their money. You can easly shoot in the back of your own Assault Kommandos to cover a defensive line or in combo with a unit with Reach (like your Pikemen). Shoot your strangle gas at the ennemy, run away. Then charge with your Pikement on that unit, make sure to be in the Reach range and non base-to-base to avoid entering the gas area. The targeted unit will have much difficulty to retaliate again the pikemen, and the pikemen will simply enjoy hitting everything easly!

Another key of the Assault Kommandos is not to make a simple straight base-to-base line with Shield Wall. When I give a Shield Wall order, I usually spread them in pack of 2-3 in base to base. One little group in the back of the other, that group shoot strangle gas to the first one and you have a good defensive line that could hold an infantry charge with only 2-3 models.

It took me a while to really enjoy the versatility of thoses troops. The idea is do not stick to their carabine... they have better MAT and 2 melee attack!
And don't forget with Strakhov, they gain Pathfinder!

*You can only have one war dog per warcaster.

Yea, Since I don't have any other models yet I am sticking with my base list. However I am thinking when the points go up to 25 that I would like to add some gray bears, and the black dragon ua for the pikemen. First game that I played I will admit and say I didn't play them well, 2nd game after reading up on battle college and some other things, and a few convos with friends I learned to do as you said basically use them to screen my pikeman/torch, and debuff the enemy. I barely won the 2nd game, his doomshaper and troll champion hero came after strakhov, and due to lucky (for me) dice he missed on the one attack that could've killed him. My turn came around, and I loaded up torch with 3 focus, paid the upkeep for superiority, popped straks feat, and charged his doomshaper, though his axer did get a free hit on torch and did hit his 1 for 5 boxes, torch was able to just ripsaw his caster down getting me the win. His axer, and Mulg ate my pikeman and kommandos :(

No they don't especially with all the smoke they dropped along with strakhov's cinderbomb, and torch's smokescreen as well.

The worst thing I hate about TrollBlood is those Pyg Burrowers and their Tough Row. Even if you can spray fire on them, you still have 2-3 that success their Tough Row and burrow under Strakhov feet... I lost couple game due to those ridiculus combo that gave them boosted attack on melee. They run first turn, move the next turn, then burrow. On third turn, he pop them at 5inch from where they were burrowed cast an upkeep spell on them, then charge giving them 3 attacks and boosted damage (with their gun).

Next time I will try to bring a Tactical Arcanist Corps to spray even more cloud to hide Strakhov and cast Vortex of Flames giving me a solid Flame/Cloud wall to protect Strakhov.

yea, idk his beasts basically decimated my infantry, and were it not for torch's valiant assault on his warlock I was guaranteed my loss. Thank god for his ripper's sustained attack. guaranteed hits is awesome lol
