Well ive been playing with the doom reavers a bit lately in 35 point games. Im wondering if the Greylord Escort is really worth having. My understanding (without having his card for reference) was that he grants the whole unit tough and silence. I know what tough is but what exactly is silence and are they both abilities that have to be activated once per turn or the unit just automatically get these abilities just like when using the winder guard with their UA (Examples grape shot and combined melee)

Any help would be awesome before I decide to buy him or not.

I've only fought against Doom Reavers a handful of times, but they always have the UA. So yeah, probably worth getting.

Tough Tyrant Guard

The Greylord Escort gives the Doom Reavers Tough and Silence while he's in play. Silence lets them not make Berserk attacks, so it lets them play nicer around friendly models (and each other). He also has a little spray spell that isn't too bad, and his command rating is a bit higher than the base unit leader's.

Silence and Tough are both pretty cool. The downside is the unit loses them if he dies. If two Doom Reavers manage to Tough and stay in the fight then he's made his point cost back even if he contributes nothing else, so he's probably a pretty good choice.

doom reaver UAs are great. he extends their control area from 7" to 10" so you can spread out your doomies a lot further and cause more mayhem! he also comes with a magical spray which is always rather handy to have.

tough keeps things alive.

silence lets you choose not no make berzerk attacks. this is extremely useful. How many times have you sent in your doom reavers to butcher an enemy squad, only to have a doom reaver blender them, and then chop up most of his own buddies as well? remember, berzerk targets friendly models as well, and silence is a great way of adding an element of control to your doomies (as in not blending friendly models!)

the unit will automatically have tough and silence while the greylord is alive. he dies, and the benefits disappear.

It's always surprising how much area 2" reach covers, and how easy it can be to berserk on your own models accidentally without silence.

Silence and Tough are both HUGE abilities. Yes he is worth it.

Tough is great because, given its nature, it can be insanely streaky. Your opponent has to take into consideration that its possible for a single Doomreaver to shrug off every attack. Its a risk for your opponent. Meaning he may have to devote more than the normal amount of effort to remove a Doomreaver.

Silence is also amazing to have. You can charge your Doomreavers a little closer together or your other models.

Of course you lose both abilities if you lose the Greylord so keep him safe.

the biggest downside to the escort is that you only get one!

tough on Doom Reevers is freaking nuts, and i have killed more than my fair share of stuff with them, and a 10" control really helps keep them in line, but give them distance to spread out and find squishy things to stab.

A++

Mad dogs of war tier list + deathbound doomies. Truly a thing of beauty!

What goes into this list? I was told by a friend toget three boxes of DRs, Butcher that goes with Reavers and Fenris. Out of stock on Greylords. What else would I need to run the list effectively? Haven't been able to open boxes yet, they're packed for the trip home.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

ok, typically when someone talks about dogs of war, it looks like this

Butcher 2
+Spriggan
Yuri the Axe
Doom Reavers
+UA Greylord escort
Doom Reavers
+UA Greylord escort
Doom Reavers
+UA Greylord escort
Doom Reavers
+UA Greylord escort
Doom Reavers
+UA Greylord escort
Doom Reavers
+UA Greylord escort

some play a different jack to cut points, some don't bother with yuri the axe.

some just run as many as possible doom reavers with UA's

but thats a 50 point list.

i will say this, its surprisinly crixy....lots of dudes that are a menace in combat. its a good list.

its also boring as all hell to play. you run forward, stab stuff, and if you win, you win, if you don't, your stuff dies and you don't make it there.

its not a great list to entertain anyone, but it is effective against anything but emorvannah and egaspy. super high attrition casters do or can give this list trouble.

Doom reavers. Mine has eight squads of the buggers. plus yuri, fenris, and kommander barkevich, aka the war dog.

It's a fun list and I love my horde of screaming doomies, but it's a skew. It will utterly murder some lists and have nothing against others (ranged, or inhospitable ground wielding casters make me cry). Would I recommend it? Sure it's fun as he'll- it is a thing of beautiful madness , and you will get people cheering you on for running with THAT MANY doomies, and though I've placed in local tourneys with it, I'd almost insider it to be a fun, casual list more so than a serious one. I do love it though!

It's definitely a skew list. There's a hell of a lot of armies that just can't deal with it (especially anything that relies on offensive magic like Rahn or Bethayne), but there's also a decent number of armies that will simply laugh at your troops. Goreshade Bane Spam and ANY Caine1 list will just giggle a bit. Still a hell of a lot of fun though.

Fun is what I want, so if its entertaining, I'm happy. Plus I think those models (especially Fenris) are at the top of the Privateer Press quality. I love those models. They're actually what sold me on trying WM in the first place.
