So we got a group starting up an Edge of the Empire game in the next week.
I decided to make a bounty hunter.
I have the rulebook and all that. I feel that in an RPG its more important to go in sort of blind as far as game mechanics go(as far as upgrades) and go with what feels right for the characters backstory.
Basic Backstory: Character is from an outrim planet settled by a human warrior culture. Culture is technologically advanced, up to having interstellar travel, but also lives relatively primitively. Subsistence agriculture and hunting for the most part, with technology mostly being focused on weapons and various methods of transport. Culture is focused on being a exemplary warrior and hunter. Its very common for inhabitants who go offworld to become Bounty Hunters to engage in the Great Hunt across the stars.
With that gist of a backstory, I settled on a Bounty Hunter with Survivalist specialization.
My randomly determined Obligation is Blackmail. I took on extra Obligation to have +2500 credits and more XP.
I chose Ambition as my Motivation(Melee and mechanics)
Statwise I upgraded to Brawn(3), Agility(3), and Willpower(3). All others are at base human stat of 2.
For non-career skills, I currently have Computers(1), Deception(1), Mechanics(2), and Melee(2). I figured that it might be a good idea to have some skill in computers and mechanics simply because of the setting. I got 2 points in Melee because of my backstory.
For Specialization skills, I just went across the top and chose Forager, Stalker, Outdoorsman, and Expert Tracker.
If I've made any huge mistakes for this particular RPG let me know, but I'm happy with these skills.
Now equipment. This is where I'm not too sure.
I've tentatively picked out a Slug Rifle and a Vibrosword for my starting weapons. I purchased a Sling for the rifle and got a Mono-molecular edge for the sword. Fluffwise, I see both weapons as being traditional crafted weapons on my characters home planet, with traditional craftsmanship representing the mono-molecular edge.
I also got padded armor for a little protection.
For other gear, i went pretty simple. An emergency med pack, 10 ration packs, a tent, thermal cloak, and fusion lantern. Stuff a minimalist bounty hunter might carry.
This leaves me with 226 credits left over(including the random pocket credits)
I figured I should probably save some credits for later but I'm not sure if there is any must have item I should start out with.
