Im assembling my army of Imperial guardsmen, and am wondering how i can get bolters for my sergeants.

My brother has a few spare bolters and i have a few spare flamers, grenade launchers, and lasguns. how could i actually convert the bolters to be used on my ig sergeants?

Use grenade launcher or flamer right arms.

Do i cut off the stock and everything else, and only leave the forearm, elbow, and shoulder?

Two ways you can go about it:
1. Easier - cut the gl off right past the dum. Cut the bolter off right after the ammo feed where the handguard begins. Glue together to make a drum fed bolter

2. Harder - cut away the gl completely leaving just the arm, hand, etc. Cut grip off bolter. Glue bolter onto cadian hand.

I cut off everything - stock, weapon, the lot - to leave an arm and fist-shaped hand. Then cut the grip off the bolter and maybe file the wrist part of the sleeve to accommodate the back of the bolter.

You could also use laspistol arms, if you don't mind the sarge heroically one-handing the bolter. Or you could use two hands that are empty or holding other gear (I don't know the Cadian/Catachan sprues offhand, but I'm guessing you could do CCW in one hand and empty/frag grenade/maybe some other doodad in the other) and glue the bolter to his back in slung position.
