Battlegroup Overlord Campaign: Heer Panzertruppen vs. American Paratroopers

Game 3 of 5

Somewhere in France
Attack/Defend
375 points +25 German for last Victory

The Battlefield:

The German Panzer Division is set to attack American Paratroopers dug into a small French village.

Objective 1: A walled field overlooking the bocage and the village to the West.
Objective 2: A dirt road connecting the American position to its higher command and supply depot.
Objective 3: The small villa of Bien sur la Fromage.

Keep an eye out fellas...

3 Turn Recce Phase (defenders dug in and attackers with the scout rule only)

1. An Aufklarungs scout squad dismounts its Sdkfz. 250/1 recce halftrack and creeps behind a walled field on some high ground. The scouts begin to calculate the range to target, preparing to relay the data to the rear echelon 80mm mortars supporting the attack.
2. The squad's halftrack, still containing a driver and a scout manning the MG42 rendezvous with an Sdkfz. scout car at the foot of the hill, readying to conduct reconnaissance in force on the Amis's left flank.
3. On the edge of the quiet village an American 57mm anti-tank gun is dug in, covering the most likely avenue of approach to the town..
4. To the north, a .30 cal machine gun covers the open fields between the Bocage, and a 60mm light mortar sets up behind a stone wall.
5. On the southern hill, the crew of an M18 Hellcat (counts as M10 Wolverine) stand by their vehicle watching the hill opposite of their own.

1. 80mm mortar shells begin to fall on the center of town, forcing the anti-tank gun crew to hit the dirt inside their dug out. To the left flank the Sdkfz. 222 moves to the edge of the Bocage, unleashing a withering hail of 20mm auto cannon shells on the .30 cal team killing two. The remaining man is voluntarily withdrawn hoping to avoid drawing a chit.
2. On the southern hill the Hellcat crew prowls the crest searching for the Jerry car harassing the lines below.

Turn 1:

The German advance begins

The M18 is knocked out by a direct hit from German 80's.

.

1. AT gun is pinned by mortars
2. Paratroopers held in central reserve begin racing to the action.

Turn 2:

The second wave of the German attack sees the main body of the Grenadier platoon enter. The Leutnant and a full squad follow the Panzer IV and Tiger up the slope of the southern hill, hoping to get into position to launch an assault into the village itself. Another squad races to link up with the forward Recon units, already embroiled in a firefight at the hedgerow.

1. 1. A Second Lieutenant and his attendants take position on the second floor of an Inn, using the visual vantage point to better control his troops as well as spotting for American 81's
2. Elite Paratroopers move up to reinforce the line, some gathering the gusto to counter-attack through the hedgerows.
.

Off to bed will finish tomorrow.
