Subject: Skorne eHexeris 25 Point List- Need Suggestions
|

So I am thinking of starting a Skorne 25 point list with Lord Arbiter Hexeris (or eHexeris
I'm planning on playing this list for fun, and not really for competitiveness
Here is my list so far:
Lord Arbiter Hexeris -6
Cyclops Brute 5
Cyclops Raider 5
Cyclops Savage 5
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) 2
Venators Slingers (Leader and 9 Grunts) 6
Agonizer 2
This currently adds up to 19 points, leaving 6 open points.
My strategy is to get my warbeasts to the front and slingers in the back. Raider and eHexeris' abilities will be used to increase distance for slingers, so they can rain their acid upon the enemy.
The point: Which units should I take to help with the wall protecting my slingers? I was thinking of Swordsmen. Any suggestions?

So here is my input on the list. I really like eHexy and I do like slingers with him. However let me explain some flaws I am seeing in your plans. While I like Slingers they don't do amazing damage and at RAT 5 will generally miss, eHexy's Black Spot does help though making them RAT 7 effectively and aiming you get RAT 9. The AOE only happens on a direct hit, if you want to throw out AOEs consider Incindiarii. If you want something to protect your slingers at 6pts and love slingers, grab another unit of slingers. I generally use mine as a first wave human shield that gives me souls and can possibly take out some stuff or put some damage on a jack.
The Raider animus affects only 1 model so only one slinger is going to get the range boost. Really if you are bringing the raider for the animus along it is best used on something like a mammoth, cannoneer or krea. I could see it having some synergy in this list with a soulward with some souls on it from dead slingers. I think you are really lacking some armor cracking in this list, I know you said you are playing for fun but I think you may change your mind after a few games when someone puts something down that you can't deal with. However my recommendations for adding in some armor cracking will change the list a lot from adding a Bronzeback and therefore mandatory Gladiator or a unit of gators with task master, at the least maybe an Archidon for some POW 17 attacks, and I can see pitch working well in this list pitching the target warjack or caster back toward your slingers who are then hitting the knocked down model on anything but snake eyes. So based on what you got maybe:
Lord Arbiter Hexeris (*6pts)
* Cyclops Brute (5pts)
* Cyclops Savage (5pts)
* Archidon (7pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Venators Slingers (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
This leaves 4 points some options are a Krea or Drake, a Tyrant Commander could be nice to add some SPD to your slingers to increase their threat range and also prevent them from fleeing can also pathfinder the savage if needed. Another option is Hakar, put him amongst the slingers and when they die he gets stronger and he can also do some armor cracking himself.

Yeah, to agree with the fellow above I would most definitely drop the Raider as it won't really do much for the list. If you really wanted it to work well and do your best at a Skorne Shooting list, you could toss in a Canoneer and drop the Savage.
The Brute would hug your caster, the Canoneer gets use from the Raider's Animus, as a Mammoth would chew up far more points than necessary for small points like this.
Slingers are good in bulk, but being only Range 10 POW 10 they are better at taking out light infantry and support pieces, and helping if you want to grind things down by causing the Corrosion effect on higher Hitbox infantry.
So, in other words, they are not that useful for late game work, and are better at setting up some questions and to slightly weaken your opponent as they march forward.
Therefore what is useful for Slingers is to
A. Get in your face
B. Be useful when they die.
So you want something that gains Soul or Corpse Tokens
And helps you get them up the board fast so their RNG 10 guns gain use.
Soul Tokens:
Ancestral Guardians/Hakaar
Extoller Soulward
Aptimus Marketh
Hakaar is good at ripping through Armor with conceivable POW 18 and buying attacks.
The Extoller Soulward lets these actually gain more versatility since they can ignore any existing cloud effects or stealth. Further, when they die he can gain Soul token, which he can use once the going gets tough to try to snipe certain pieces, solos, and buy attacks to whittle down or jacks/beasts.
Further, it gains a benefit from the Raider's animus for a total RNG 12, which can lead to some interesting surprises and mistakes on your opponents part.
Further, with Hakaar, it can gain more use so when all of the Slingers die, he can toss some of the Souls into Hakaar to ensure that you can crack heavies as needed.
For 3pts we can try to find something that can speed up the Reivers so they can get where they need to without running,
So far, for a shooting based 25pt eHexeris list, building on the template you want to try, we can do as follows:
eHexeris (-6)
Titan Canoneer (+9)
Cyclops Raider (+5)
Venator Slingers (+6)
Min. Beast Handlers (+2)
Extoller Soulward (+2)
Hakaar T. Destroyer (+4)
Agonizer (+2)
1 point left means we'll just shove in a Swamp Gobber for filler. However there are options here to help with that.
You can drop Hakaar giving you 4 points to get a Krea, to give more fury, or Hakaar and the 1 point of Gobbers to buy a Savage, to help with Fury management due to the animus.
Or you can drop the Agonizer, Beast Handlers, and Gobbers to get a unit of either Immortals or Reivers.
Reivers play into the shooting theme, while Immortals work well with Hakaar and provide some help in case your opponent is too fast to mind any shooting, especially when things get more dirty and rough near the end, especially if a scenario is involved.
So, for my final take on the list I would run
eHexeris (-6)
Titan Canoneer (+9)
Cyclops Raider (+5)
Max. Slingers (+6)
Min. Immortals (+5)
Extoller Soulward (+2)
Hakaar T. Destroyer (+4)
(With the Raider as your Arc Node due to it being faster)
The Slingers run up first turn, and are covered with Ashen Veil by eHexeris. Everyone else follows up, making sure to be well screened by the Slingers.
Toss Blackspot onto a key unit if they are in range, and put Snipe onto the Canoneer.. You have the Slingers either shuffle around into range or aim and unleash a mean barrage onto anything that you want to have Corrosion on it, or any light infantry walls.
The Extoller either puts guidance on them, or onto the Canoneer, who launches a 16" Range POW 15 AOE onto either big beasts.
Then the game turns into an attrition-y dance, where it slowly boils down into melee as you wear down key infantry with Corossion and Pow 15's.
If your more worried about Fury than board presence, I'd run a Savage instead of Immortals. If you want to drown your opponent in bullets, make it a minimum unit of Reivers.
If you don't really want Hakaar in the list, you can toss in the Savage, and the PGBH, Agonizer, and Swamp Gobbers.
To Expand it out, I'd toss in a Krea or a Drake, max out the Immortals unit, and Aptimus Marketh to give eHexeris more Fury to work with, or a Tyrant Commander to get more work out of your infantry, and to help with Knockdown.

Thank you to both Hargus and Extravagant Evil for making these lists and spending so much time on them. I really appreciate this.

No problem. EE had some great advice there and to add to his recommendation a good 8 point anti armor threat is Slaughter Housers with a Task Master. Instead of Hakar and the Immortals or Hakar, beast handlers (can't believe I said that but with 2 warbeasts they aren't as necessary) and the Agonizer. Between the Canoneer, Hellfire and Slingers most things that need armor cracking should be damaged so these little buggers are going to bring you P+S 13 and 4 dice on the charge for that damaged warjack and will be hitting probably on 4s, plus remove from play has a lot of other advantages other than no tough check, such as no leeching the fury on the beast you just killed and no wreck marker on the jack you just killed among other abilities. And the task master makes it so they cannot be knocked down which is really useful especially on a unit with tough built in. And with the left over point grab some swamp gobbers to help protect your caster from shooting.
