My partner and I are considering moving out west and I'm wondering what games you guys play. I've heard that Portland has an active gaming community.

Join the Ordofanaticus boards and find plenty of Northwest gamers as well as WOW (Western Oregon Wargamers club). Gaurdian Games is an impressive shop in downtown Portland - there's also Rainy Day games in Beaverton and Dice Age games in Vancouver. Plenty more that I'm missing. Not sure if the GW store is still open down there or not

The only GW store open is on the southeast side (82 and foster). Ordo I hear is great (my roommate joined recently and swears by it). There are also plenty of great local shops that have space to play for no price.
The scene around the GW shop is primarily 40k, but there are a number of us fantasy fans as well.
From the sounds of it, Ordo is for veteran players, fairly competitive. The GW shop is pretty laid back, lots of silly lists and such (my preference).

When a unit is giving you problems, throw skink skirmishers at it. |

Ordo actually hosts a Club Challenge (OFCC) every year which emphasizes "gentlemanly play" instead of WAAC - think of it as an anti-'Ard Boyz. Fun lists, amazing conversions, high on sportsmanship and just fun times all-around.

Yeah, I came here to pump Ordo and second everything Swan said.
There's a fair amount of Fantasy, 40k, X-Wing, WMH, etc in the area.
Also, Guardian Games is probably the best FLGS you will ever see. Even with that said, there are a ton of good ones in the area (Partial to Dice Age Games in Vancouver as well).
I haven't been to the GW shop, but there's no reason to with so many good FLGS's in the area.

If you are out in East Portland you can head to Nexus Games. Big 40K community there.
