Hey folks, After reading the posts about the Inquisitor gang in Necromunda, complete with pictures and story, I was inpired to also place some of my modeling projects on this board. First off, the =][= gang was GREAT! Really nice stuff. History of the tables: I was in a hobby store that I frequent and heard that games workshop would be coming down to host a 40k event! All the store had to do was provide the terrain. Now, knowing the store owner as I do, I 'volunteered' to build the terrain. This guy has the best of intentions, but he is a terrible time manager and we would ultimately end up with green felt covering books! Having three months to prepare, I felt I would be able to kick out three tables in my free time. I started with three 4x6 particle board and added 2.5 inch blue insulation foam. On the foam, I drew my rough outline of what I thought would be a few cool tables. I wanted them to connect well together and be able to stand alone. So this is how I started:

You need to find a file host online. www.photobucket.com is pretty good
Then copy and paste the html code into your dakka post

There are plenty of free pic hosting sites out there, they usually only cost money if you need lots 'o bandwidth. Upload them to one of those and you should have no problem cross posting them here.

thanks folks for all the help! I think I have it down now... First thing I did was draw a rough idea on where I wanted things and why. The theme of the tables was an counter attack from the forces of evil into the beachhead of the forces of good. Here are the three tables pushed up against each other: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001308.jpg

The next stage, I primered the tables with a primer white. Twice. After letting it dry, I cut out some masonite roads and glued them to the table. Again limiting the playability of the table, but with the price of the forgeworld roads, which I thing are great, I thought this would be a cheaper substitute. In Hindsight, I believe I would have allowed the roads to be removable. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001316.jpg

Next I started adding fencing and wood planking to the canals. I used popsicle sticks that I cut at varous lengths to use as planking for the sides of the canals. In addition, I started using plumbing supplies as pipes for the various culverts and throughways for the bridges and walls. That's my son standing, poor kid, I got his friends and him hooked on 40k .. And the wife is sitting down, doesn't she looked pleased as I destroy her living room for about three months?? After all this was done, it cost me a new diswasher and carpet :p http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001318.jpg

Once the canals were in place, I spray painted the wood a flat black and used a black texture paint to roll over all the horizontal surfaces. I avoided the spraying of a hydrocarbon onto a hydrocarbon for obvious reasons http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001322.jpg

Once the black texture was dry, I then lightly sprayed gray onto the roads for a more concrete appearance, They too had the texture paint on them and with the lighter color, I was pleased it showed up as concrete. I also sprayed the canals a mix of steel blue and green. Once they were dry, I covered the roads and canals with painters tape. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001325.jpg

Friends came over *I bribed them with beer! as you can see in the background* We sprayed the first table a brownish color for the industrial type terrain we were intending to place there and then the tables gradually became more green for the cathedral and military installation. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001327.jpg

Once we had the spraying down, I then added flocking to the various parts of the table to allow for a diverse type of grass. Once the spay was dry, I added a mix of water and glue over the flocking, let it dry for 24 hours and then did it two more times. This is crucial, in my oh sooo humble opinion to extend the life of the gaming table. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/02ed73c9.jpg

As you can see, the first table was an industrial table and we did not put any flocking down on this at all. We stuck to a iron oxide/turquiose theme to this one. The buildings were modular and made with construction type debris and foam board. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/27c5f9bf.jpg

The flocking was a series of greens, browns and tans. I concentrated most of the green flocking around the 'state' run areas -- the military park and the catherdral. I figured that would be the place where the most people would work. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/0651519d.jpg

Here you can see the tables at the store.. Most of the brick type buildings were constructed with Hirst arts blocks and the rest were hand made or purchased via games workshop.. The closest table was the military table, the next was the cathedral table and the last was the industrial table. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/3tableview.jpg

Here is the Industrial table: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001393.jpg The Cathedral table: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001417.jpg The Military table.. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/P1001403.jpg Another picture of the cathedral table. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/Dlat/table2wJohn.jpg After all was said and done, GW reps never showed up. But it was fun to make the tables.. The store owner was so impressed with the tables that he offered me $20.00 a piece for them! So now they sit in my shed.. soon my kid will be old enough to play on them.. and I will give them to him..

nice work. it looks really cool. the cool thing with building terrain and stuff for a store is, that you get to build it AND play on it, but you don't have to pay it. the only two things which bug me are: 1.the industrial table has a very high building with much space but it is way too bright. 2.IMO there's too much open space on the table. some of the streets seem big enough for two landraiders. and for cityfight I think that is waaaaaaaaaay to much.
