Hey there friends. I've decided to get back in to WM using models I collected a few years ago. I guess I got kind of lucky in a way in that I started with Cryx and was more interested in building a unit heavy force. From what I've been reading, I made a good decision back then in faction selection. Anyway, it seemed like people normally play 50 points now, so 25 seems like an okay number to start off with to get more used to the game and using the models I wanted. So here it goes.

Warcaster:
pDenny

Jacks:
Deathripper
Defiler

Units:
min unit mechanithralls with brute thrall attachment
min unit mechanithralls with brute thrall attachment
min unit bane thralls with UA
necrosurgeon and stitch thralls

Solos:
Skarlock
Tartarus

Without much actual gaming experience, I'm not sure how this will play out, or how I would really deploy. I kind of assumed I'd be mostly running forward with the mechanithralls in the front to soak up damage and come back to life. I was thinking of just having my arcnodes flanking my units to cast crippling grasp on stuff before I charge, or to stop them from charging me. Well, any insight, mostly on the actual strategy of making this force effective would be really appreciated.

Are those all the models you have?

If it is, I would combine the mcthralls into a full unit. At min sizes it's too easy for the whole unit to be wiped before the necrosurgeon can replenish bodies. Plus having two brute thralls in the unit makes them devote resources to their death and blocked tramples easier.

Everything else looks good, but you can't go wrong with a full unit of banes or a second surgeon as well.

Ok, so tactics wise it's going to be about what to target. Mcthralls are going to have a tough time hitting things on their own, so using Denny to debuff beforehand (or feat, or both) will get them to more than respectable MAT. The banes should be a second line, but their target of choice will be any armor or heavies they can dark shroud and charge. The trick is having Tartarus close enough to curse and possibly thresher (on infantry) but not where he can easily be sniped out.

Skarlock is for free buffs and maybe a nuke if something warrants it that might get caught in her feat area.

Hope that helps.

Well, I have another defiler and a slayer from the box set. That's it though. I only have six bane thralls because the old set from before they went plastic only came with 6 models. I went with two min units instead of a single big unit because it seemed like it would be less likely they will be wiped out. For starters, I get an additional two bodies that would have to be killed off. Also, since a lot of debuffs affect entire units, having two separate units would make it more difficult to cripple a huge chunk of my models at once. I also thought it would give me more flexibility in terms of putting them where I want to go. i could be wrong, but that's what it seemed like to me.

Thanks for the advice as far as tactics go. That's kind of what I was thinking, but I'm not sure how easy it will be to actually pull off. Also, what are the big weaknesses of a list like this, and how do I try to counteract them? To me, it seems like anything with a lot of blasting going on will be tough, or if I'm against an army with a high DEF. Even after debuffs, MAT 5 isn't good and I don't have a strong offensive jack that can boost hits to make up for it.
