OK so I just started the game, played with the wifey tonight and we got a bit confused on the wording of the Ion Cannon for the Y wing. So it says once a hit is rolled you cancel ALL other dice. Does that mean all of the attack dice? can you still try and dodge?

If someone could explain the wording to us that would be great. I am sure it will seem clear as day once someone explains it but we got tripped up on the wording vs the rule book wording of when dice are rolled.

thanks!

With an Ion weapon you roll normally for attack and defense. For example, you fire your Ion turret at a TIE Fighter at range 2. Lets say you roll 3 hits and the TIE rolls 1 evade. The evade cancels one of the hits, leaving 2 to be applied. Being that it's an Ion weapon, you would remove all other dice till you are left with just 1 hit and then apply it to the unfortunate TIE. Also, with an Ion weapon, any crits you roll are changed to regular hits. Furthermore, as the Ion turret is a secondary weapon you get no additional die for being at range 1.

It does take a bit of figuring at first!

You roll your attack dice, do any of your re-rolls/modifiers (except range ones, cos this is a secondary weapon), then total up your hits.

Target rolls defense dice, does any re-rolls/modifiers (except range ones, cos this is a secondary weapon), use those evades to cancel out the hits.

Any hits still left? Good shootin', Tex! Doesn't matter how many there are, the target takes one damage and collects an ion token.

Of course, since next turn they'll be moving one ahead, you can get to range one and let them have it hard with main guns next turn...

Or, if you went all out on a y wing, you can move to range one and dump an advanced proton torpedo on them...like a boss!

Or if you had an X-Wing companion you could work around behind him, let the Y Ion him each turn (may only move forward 1) then the X blasts him with impunity.
Rinse and repeat until dead.
Of course the ultimate win is hitting him with an Ion and force him to fly through the rocks...killing himself with bad damage rolls each turn.

Here's a little trick I learned with the Ion Cannon. Aim for someone with a Stress Token. You will remove their move AND their action for the next round. Also, if you do it enough, and focus on an ace or something, you can fly them right off the edge of the map.

I followed Fel from the middle of the map to the edge with Kyle in a game last week. It pissed off my opponent, but it was fun watching one third of his list points fly off the map. It's also fun to slam people into asteroids with it!

Does the ION Cannon still work if the enemy has a shield.

So they lose a shield, and still take the ION token???
