Ok, working on my Armored Company, and looking for a touch of advice. I'm looking to make as close as possible to a balanced, take-all-comers, list that I can have some fun with too. I'm also trying to be realistic and working with the assumption of mostly going against power-armor heavy MEQ lists. Oh, and I am very new to the entire concept of Imperial Guard as well as vehicle heavy lists, so my understanding of the applicable wargear is close to nil. Here is what I am thinking, at 1849pts total. HQ: Command tank, Leman Russ Vanquisher, w/ hull lascannon, heavy bolter sponsons, and forge crafted. 320pts Elite: Tank Ace, Leman Russ, w/hull lascannon and heavy bolter sponsons. 240pts Storm Trooper Squad. 9 Troopers + Sergeant : 197pts including chimera in Chimera with heavy bolter in turret and hull, + pintle stubber Troops 2x Leman Russ Conqueror, w/heavy bolters all around and pintle storm bolter. 340pts 2x Leman Russ, w/lascannon and sponson heavy bolters. 330pts Fast Attack Sentinal Squadron. 1 with Lascannon, 2 with autocannon. 155pts Hellhound w/pintle stubber. 127pts. Heavy Support Basilisk. w/armored crew compartment and improved comms. 140pts However, I may drop the heavy stubbers from the Chimera and Hellhound to give all the vehicles other than Sentinals some smoke launchers. This list gives me 6 heavy tanks, 6 other vehicles, and a squad of stormtroopers to aborb assaults with. Another consideration is to replace the Basilisk with a Griffon and use the points for extra wargear and equipment all around. -Hans

mmm - have some suggestions
1. Switch the Vanquisher cannon to the tank ace and drop the forge crafted and sponsons from the ace and commander. 2. Give the Storm troopers a couple of melta guns. 3. Switch the Conquerors back to normal LRMBT's - under the new rules you can move and shoot. And drop the storm bolters. 4. Change the hull mounted lascannons to heavy bolters on any platform BS3. 5. Personally - Id drop all the sentinels too - they wont be able to keep up with the tanks and they are paper mache. 6. Drop the armoured crew off the bassie.
7. Add 2 more Hellhounds.
But then thats my list. Im a fan of AC as much as the next guy - well maybe more so. Go Guard!!

My thinking with the Conquerors wasn't really the move and shoot, but the extra anti-infantry firepower. With the configuration above it gives me the cannon shot, 9 Heavy Bolter shots, and 4 from the storm bolters (it has two if you add the pintle mounted one). Plus, it can unload all of them while moving up to 6". With a standard Russ, it's one or the other, but not the Battle Cannon and the hull/sponsons in any situation. Against Orks, IG or Nids, those extra shots may just come in handy.
With the storm troopers, I was thinking the same thing about the meltas or maybe plasma (but favoring meltas), but wasn't sure where to get the points from. But, I think you're definitely right about another hellhound instead of the 3 sentinals. That, and dropping the cab from the Basilisk shouid give me enough points to play around with. The only real reason I was thinking of Sentinals anyways was they are fairly cheap and use the Scout special rule.
But I do want to keep at least 3-4 lascannons around if I can for the occasional terminator squad. Do you think just the Ace and Commander with the lascannons will be enough though?
Also, what do you think about the Commander taking a Vanquisher, and the Ace a Russ with lascannon and plasma cannons, using the improved sponson doctrine? I just really like the idea of keeping that expensive commander back as far as I can, but still being able to shoot.

If you already have the conquerors - I understand. If not then, exterminators do the same thing for the points and are twin linked. Your opponent will be spreading out.
2+ saves are a problems for AC lists, especially a lot of it - you could use the Strom troppers - give them plasma guns and the SGT a pistol too. Adding another bassilisk or a demolisher in addition to the bassie you already have is a good idea.
That Command Vanquisher just costs too many points. Control the amount of points spent on an already expensive unit. 330 points can be silenced with a glancing hit.
To be honest - AC lists are a blast to build and think about but...challenging to say the least tactically. They really are the definitive Glass Hammer. I have found going all AV12 OR all AV14 is the way to go. Personally, I like the AV12 with troops version on the table but the AV14 better on paper. I prefer the IA list myself.
With either version you must be very disciplined in what you pay for in wargear. Nothing is what I recommmend. Get as many vehicles on the table first then look at the wargear list. For the AV14 list its all about the Battle Cannon - with the AV12 list its all about DAKKA DAKKA. At 1850 - 12 vehicles (AV14 or AV12) is where you should be - AV10 doesnt count. These just allow all the other non-AT weapons in their list something to shoot at.
I like the AV12 list because Im not giving up 2 for 1's all the time. Even if the vehicle is destroyed I still have a scoring unit. Should they decide to ignore my transports (IFV's) and kill my scoring units - then I still have a lethal force. With the AV14 list - they kill the lethality and the scoring unit with one shot.

Well, I have ONE conqueror, but I'm not hung up on a second one at all. I just like reduncancy if at all possible, that way I don't loose an ability like you can do when you old field one of something. And like I said, I do really like the sheer volume of firepower that they can put out, but an exterminator does sound like a good idea too. Or maybe replacing the 2nd conqueror with another hellhound, and having 3 of them total.
Hmmm, I was thinking about a Demolisher actually. Either that, or using the improved sponsons doctrine to give some of the other tanks the plasma cannons. I'll have to look into that option.
You are right though, it is hard to come up with a good Armored Company list. I really have no expectations of it being competitive, this is more intended to be my fun list and a good excuse to buy things I otherwise wouldn't see myself having in a regular Imperial Guard army. Though some may end up doing double duty when I get around to fielding a regular Guard force too.

i, personally love the way the conquerer turret looks, but i'm planning on using the standard russes in my list.
"I was thinking about a Demolisher actually" i'm kicking around the idea of using 2 demos and 1 bassy for hvy support.

yeah, I also really like the look of the Conqueror turret. I know it's not the best choice, but for my 'Fun' army, I think I'm just going to stick with them for now using that blanket excuse "I just WANT to, so thppppppppt". (Hey, you gotta let the inner child out once in a while).
I'll have to run down the numbers again, but I think I'm going a bit more in this direction now Command Commander in a Russ, lascannon (270pts)
Elite Tank Ace in Vanquisher, lascannon (245pts) Storm Troopers in Chimera, 2 multi-meltas, Vet Sgt with Power Weapon (216pts)
Troops 2x Conquerors, HB's all around and pintle SB (340pts) 2x Leman Russ, HB all around (310pts)
Fast Attack 3x Hellhounds (230pts)
Heavy Support Basilisk, improved comms (120pts)
That gives me 1846pts right now. Where to use the last 4? lol Maybe camo netting for the conquerors, ace and commander?

Sorry, used the wrong term. meltaguns is what I meant to say for the stormtroopers.
and indirect on a basilisk is close to useless when almost all the tables in the area are 4'x4', and the minimum range is 36"
