Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
Hello all.
I've got an Xwing tournament coming up (100 points), and wanted some advice/input into a couple of lists. One is Imperial, the other Rebel. Also, which do you prefer?
Imperial (100 pts):
Turr Phennir (w/ Veteran Instincts)
Royal Guard Pilot (w/ Push the Limit)
Royal Guard Pilot (w/ Push the Limit)
Academy Pilot
Academy Pilot
Basic Strategy: Utilize the high maneuverability of Turr and the Interceptors to get into firing arcs with minimal return fire, and use the basic TIEs as blockers/distractions.
Rebel (99 pts):
Wedge Antilles (w/ Determination)
Wes Janson (w/ Vet Instincts)
Ibtisam (w/ Heavy Laser Cannon, Opportunist)
Basic Strategy: Use Wedge and Wes as high priority targets. Wes Strips away focus/evade tokens while Ibtisam is the long range threat potentially throwing out five shots; w/ focus + 1x reroll the odds are good at putting 4-5 damage on ships. Wes having VI means that Wedge can also benefit from focus/evade stripping. determination is on Wedge because he's awesome, and his pilot skill is too important to risk messing up.
I'm leaning towards the Rebel list, but having only 3 ships is a concern. I think it has a fair shot at taking down swarm lists as well as lists with large ships, but hinges a lot on Ibtisam. However, since Wave 4 dropped, it seems PS is a lot more important than it was before, which the rebel list has in spades.
Any input is appreciated. Fly casual.

I'm not sure on the Rebel list (I know, it won the Not Wave 4 Legal Danish Regional), because I'm uncertain in the days of Falcon+3/4 Zs, and Whisper if 3 ship rebels can really hang anymore if one of those 3 isn't rocking a turret or some way to keep Whisper honest. It's hard to get her in your arc because of how damn maneuverable she is, and by the same token, she can get you into hers pretty easily. I'd run a lot of test games against that kind of Imperial list before I decided on the Rogues.

Yeah, I'm not feeling 3 ship Rebel lists these days. The abilities look good, but with only 3 ships on low agility platforms, you will get ground down by swarms and even 4-ship lists can outlast you.
Interceptors, on the other hand, are a hoot to fly and with the TIEs thrown in you've got numbers and movement/action denial to make life even harder for your opponents.

I may still go with the Rebel list to see if I can make it work, but I see the point about Phantoms.
That being said, what are thoughts on the following:
Rexler Brath (PTL, HLC, Engine Upgrade)
4x Academy Pilot
Somewhat swarmy, and the obvious tactic being to... TIE other ships up while Rexler does the heavy lifting with his insane maneuverability and firepower.
I've also been messing with the idea of Triple Phantom:
Echo (Advanced Cloaking Device, Vet Instincts, Recon Specialist)
Shadow Squadron pilot (Adv. Cloak)
Shadow Squadron pilot (Adv. Cloak)
A glass hammer, but a maneuverable one. Other option is Whisper, same loadout, but with Sigma pilots.
Thanks!

Ok, so based on a desire to "see what happens" at an upcoming tourney, I've decided to run one of the following lists:
Echo (ACD, VI, Navigator)
Whisper (ACD, VI, Navigator)
Mauler Mithel (VI, Stealth Device)
-or-
Echo (ACD, VI, Navigator)
Whisper (ACD, VI, FCS, Navigator)
Dark Curse (Stealth Device)
-or-
Echo (ACD, VI, Navigator)
Whisper (ACD, VI, FCS, Navigator)
Lambda - Omicron Group Pilot
Obviously the basis is straight up outmaneuvering with the Phantoms and picking the fights I want to with the help of navigator and high PS.
The third ship is there to annoy/harass.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks!

Did you get to try the interceptor list at all? It looks like a blast to play.
