So, after purchasing and digesting the first official 7th edition codex (Orks), I was excited to see the inclusion of faction specific Tactical Objectives and Formations.javascript:emoticon(''); This is what I had hoped for in the upcoming codices to flesh out the basics in the BRB. Then came the listed 7th edition upgrade for the Sisters of Battle codex at the Black Library.

YES!javascript:emoticon(''); We would finally be at the forefront of a rulesset, with new whistles at least. I guess the echoing laughter from across the ocean should have been my first tipoff as I was downloading, but I persevered and trudged on. How hard could it be to whip up 6 Tactical Objectives and paste them in? We know the "writers" are familiar with copy/pasta codex writing.

So, taking the examples of the Orkiness, I came up with these for a first pass. Despite my loathing of the Maelstrom random vps-arama, I hope to get in a game or 2 this week to try them out. They are inline with the vp assignments of the Ork ones, and not overpowering while maintaining ( I hope) a thematic feel of the oldest complete army I own.

I've made my own deck of TacObj cards using MSE and subbed these 6 in for the first 6 normal objectives.

Feedback/suggestions/obfuscations welcome, constructive or otherwise (this is the internet afterall).

(All credit for the art on the cards to the original creators/owners/artists. I did not create any of it, merely borrowed it for my personal set of cards. If its yours and wnat it removed/changed please let me know).

The first one is pretty much a free victory point, I think. For the rest, some might be a bit situational, but I'd definitely allow this in friendly games.

1400 points of EW/MW Italians (FoW)
2200 points of SoB and Inquisition (40K)
1000 points of orks (40K)
Just starting out with Ultramarines (30K)
Four 1000-2500 point forces for WHFB (RIP)
One orc team (Blood Bowl)

I'd be tempted to go a step further and would love to see tactical objective cards used for non-victory-point-based-effects.

Death to the Heretic:

When you draw this card, put this into your 'command zone' (made-up term) and draw another tactical objective card in it's place. Whenever a friendly unit successfully performs an act of faith, in addition to it's effects, that unit may reroll all failed to wound rolls caused by shooting attacks. Discard this card at the end of your turn.

Congregational Hymn:

When you draw this card, put this into your 'command zone' (made-up term) and draw another tactical objective card in it's place. Whilst this is in your Command zone you may reroll any attempt to activate an act of faith. If an opponent gains a victory point, discard this card.

Drive them back:

When you draw this card, put this into your 'command zone' (made-up term) and draw another tactical objective card in it's place. Whilst this is in your Command zone units you control may fire overwatch at BS2 instead of BS1. Flame weapons also automatically deal 3 hits instead of d3 in such occasions. If 3 or more of your units are successfully assaulted in a single turn, discard this card.

This harkens back to 2nd ed days of Tactical cards, or more accurately what I loved about Ambush Alley/Force on Force....the Fog of War deck. Every player draws a card (or 2) every turn and a variable effect, good or bad potentially applies. Random reinforcments, buffs, debuffs, breakdowns, etc...cause battle is fluid and variable and should affect your actual forces. not vps.

Think that will be my project, adapt the For of War deck for 40k, then convince the few casual, for fun players at the FLGS to give them a try. the "deck building" minigame may/may not be viable with Faction specific options like those in this format. Could toss in a few cards (4-6) specifically for each faction since in that system one deck is used by both sides.
