Just traded for a huge collection of Robogear, Battletech and Mechwarrior toys, potentially to feed my obsession for 28mm mech gaming. Inspried by some recent threads on similar topics. I've done up a blog post comparing the sizes of the various mechs and some others, along with some commentary regarding their suitability for gaming, quality and sourcing.

Good haul! I really like the assemble-it-yourself die cast mechs that were put out, even though supposedly they were 1/72 scale, and I see you like the Exosquad Robotech ones, too. I have three Forestrymechs, a Mad Cat, a Legionnaire, and the big red Jupiter. Now, that last one's a beast of a model if you can get one!

I probably mentioned it before, but I am really thinking solidly about making some Battletech papercraft minis, which are the same scale as the ones you use. You have to like papercraft, though because some of them are pretty fiddly to construct, and lack the durability of the toys. Or maybe the set you can get form World Works games, as they have hot-swappable weapons that almost make them like a 28mm Mech Attack mech.

That being said, I much prefer re-purposing action figures into 28mm mecha.

Nice lot! I've got a bunch of the exosquad zentraedi myself as I planned years ago to do a mega scale 28mm Robotech game at gencon after seeing one for Battletech done on a floor with large boxes as buildings. I never got around to it as I moved away from the midwest shortly after and stopped going to gencon though.

Thanks,
I've seen some of the pictures of those awesome mega BT games. My games are a bit smaller and use the Mech Attack rules, but are alot of fun and play to conclusion in about 2 hours.

I particularly lile the fact that the one with the huge chainsaw for an arm has "caution" on it. It's nice to know that the manufacturer really cares about your safety.

Well, to be truthful, in the Battletech universe, the Forestrymech (the chainsaw-armed one) is actually a piece of industrial equipment repurposed to be battle-ready, from a time period where they had de-comissioned most of the "real" mechs. The "standard" arm instead of the autocannon is a giant tree-moving claw.

So it truly is Future-OSHA approved.

Good luck with that. Joyride Studios made a few 'Mechs when Mechwarrior: Dark Age came out. They have been OOP for a while, and they tend to sell at pretty ridiculous prices. Especially the Mad Cats.

I bid on one of the build-it-yourself "Construction kit" Mad Cats last week but it went for 70+ bucks!

Overpriced compared to what they originally sold for, but, considering that most of the 28mm scale Battlemechs that are being made by various independent makers go for $100+ for a kit, it's not a terrible deal.

If anyone is interested in the Tyco Battletech toys or the Large size Robogear, shoot me a PM and maybe we can work something out. I'm sorry to let them go so soon, but I just don't think they're going to mesh with the size of the rest of my Mechs.

Just because the Mauler is the size of a city block doesn't mean anything...

Besides, there are rules for super-heavy 'Mechs now. Make it 175 tons instead.

Someone should do a 28mm Ogre battle with parade floats.

LOL!
We (Armorcast) were talking with Steve Jackson about doing 28mm vehicle minis (and-not-so-minis) for Ogre and the Ogre models were coming in at about two feet long.

I think he tried to do 28mm stuff on his own, but I don't think it worked out.

If I was still doing 40k, it would be an excellent starting point for a titan!
It's really a dilemma. They're so cool looking, but I've got so much gaming stuff, keeping things just-because or to sit on a shelf isn't a viable option anymore.
