Have a handful of friends who are spread out over some distance and are unable to meet up to any role playing. We are wondering if there are any good and easy to use web based programs that would allow us to play through some adventures. Would prefer cheap to free if there are any but willing to pay some so we could group up and go.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

roll20 was really cool. I spent along time setting up maps etc in advance so that it was smooth playing during the dame.

Its got everything you need and if you spend a while well before you start testing the program for what it can do you will find it does everything you need.

It can show health, magic, stamina, action points and ranges on the map. I had my character sheet and special rules set up to auto effect mt dice rolls (like +1 to hit with certain weapon) all my potions and ammo count even for guns etc.

Everything you could want. Just spend some time working out the kinks.

I didnt use its voice chat though, I used skype and steam for that.

My Dragon Age group is "international" - we're just using good old IRC for our game. Dice bots are easily found, the campaign is tracked on a wiki, and if we need a map or something we're resorting to one of the online drawing boards available on ze interwebs.

All those tools are available for free.
