Subject: NRA vows to fight to the last against Obama's Spy guns

I'm very very surprised no American dakka member has posted this yet...
From The Guardian
NRA calls use of potential technology 'Sinister' and 'Orwellian.'
Gun rights advocates vow to fight to the last man
The National rifle association has vowed to take a stand against the Obama administration's intentions to introduce so called 'spy' guns in an attempt to appease the increasingly influential gun control lobby.
The technology, which can track the gun's movement from store to home, can also monitor how many bullets have been fired, relay information on the number of times the gun has seen periodic maintenance (i.e. cleaning) and potentially, initiate a lockdown mode from a command word spoken from any federal agent in the vicinity, thus rendering the weapon useless.
With an estimated 700 million firearms in circulation in the United States, the Obama administration hopes to have every fire arm fitted with a monitoring device by 2025.
Predictably, the backlash was not long in coming.
“Let's not mince words,” the NRA said, “not only is it unconstitutional, it's downright fascist and undemocratic. It's certainly not a practical way to allow citizens to go about their business while being prepared to defend yourself. To those who are not acquainted with the dubious history of Nazi Germany, this is the start of a very slippery slope, and we shall fight this all the way, to the last man and woman if need be."
Numerous pro-gun organizations have also voiced their support of the NRA. Open Carry Texas rallied 1000 members outside a federal court on Saturday. Using social media to spread the word, Open Carry has persuaded a string of major chains – in addition to Chili’s and Sonic, Starbucks, Wendy’s, Jack In The Box, Applebees and Chipotle – to refuse to stock 'spy' guns if ever they appear on the market.
A spokesman for the Obama administration said that ordinary Americans had nothing to fear "This administration takes the constitution seriously, and will of course, respect the 2nd amendment rights of all Americans…"

Either I'm parsing this part completely wrong or I've been eating at the wrong fast food restaurants! Where are these Wendy's that stock guns? I'd like to get a 1911 with my next Baconator.

No link, incorrect spelling/grammar...I'm calling bs.
Plus I haven't gotten my inbox spammed by the NRA about this, and since they spam me regarding everything else...

The chances of this being real are nonexistent. What network do these devices connect to? How will they stand up to heat and recoil? Where in the gun are they physically located? Where is the power supply? My cell phone only lasts about 24 hours without being charged, and it doesn't have to actuate any mechanical devices such as a "lockdown mode" (lol) would require.

Indeed.
If the OP could provide a link to the source it'd be appreciated.
That way it accusations of trolling other members can be easily disproved.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

What a quaint little story.
This can't be real, because if it was, I'm sure every gun in the UK would already have one of these devices attached.

Every sentence on this "news story" in a search and specific portions of prhases invariably lead back to this thread as a top seach find.
This news story is patently fake.

I hold my hands up and confess this is a spoof article. I've started doing a basic journalism course, so I've been practising article writing and I think I'd better brush up on my grammar as well.
I was under the impression that spoof articles were permitted on this site, because I'm pretty sure I've seen one or two doing the rounds.
Apologies for any offence caused, and any contravention of dakka guidelines.

Be best in future maybe if you A don't claim they're from XXX if they're not and B -- even if not in the first post let people know what you're trying to do.
Some of the phrasing was quite good though , caught the tone, maybe anyway.
Still no harm done anyway, just to avoid confusion I'll lock this now.
Best of luck with the course.
