Hey guys, looking to get into MERCS tabletop with a few buds, but I have a quick question that I couldn't find in the rules.

You pick a squad of 5 (or 3 for small games) but do you need to include the assault leader? Right now it's between two factions for me, and whether or not having the squad leader is needed will help me choose what to play!

You don't need to select the assault leader but he's normally one of the better choices since he gives anyone within 1 card length +1 to all their rolls.

p.36 of the hardback rulebook is where you'll find the answer (in the lower left corner under "choosing squad members".

Thank you! I was asking because my friend wants to play a 3v3 to start, and while the assault leader seems like a good option, I would like to try KemVar, and I don't like the melee only option for a starter game!
