So, I've been told by a few people here on Dakka, as well as heard on podcasts and read on several sites that Bolt Action is a great game. I'm honestly interested in getting into the game, but I've run into a bit of a snag.

Players.

There are two game stores near me (Game Parlor and Huzzah Hobbies) and today I went to them to ask about their gaming community. Game Parlor didn't have a single book or mini on their shelves, so I didn't even bother to ask if they had players. Huzzah Hobbies had a fair few kits and what appeared to be most of the rulebooks, so hope emerged. I asked one of the employees if they had a Bolt Action community, and he said "a couple of guys play on Thursdays, but mostly Flames of War". I have a Panzerkompanie for FoW, but honestly it's never seen the table as (through reading the rulebook) I came to the decision that the rules just don't do it for me. The editions I own are just a jumbled mess I had a rough time comprehending, and after watching a few games played I walked away saying "meh". I have no problem with 15mm, and out of curiosity I took a look at the FoW rules, but $60 just for a core rulebook is kind of pricey.

After having my hopes for a game over at HH dashed, I decided to post here and see if I had missed anywhere.

I know that Eagle & Empire at least sells the products, but I've gamed there a few times and the players and staff there kind of have a hard time not talking about politics and religion, and I'd really rather not be bombarded by that all evening.

Thanks in advance for any help.

"I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me." -Adam Savage
