I would like an 800 point list for an Aquan Fleet so my friend and I can do a Firestorm Armada campaign with Planet Fall etc.

Im the only one without a fleet as I changed my mind about doing the Terran Alliance from the starter.

I have yet to play a game and dont have much of an idea of what to do or anything when making a list.

I was hoping to buy the following (patrol set and Carrier fleet) which contains:

1 Maelstorm Battleship = 170
3 isonade Cruisers = 150
1 Namazu Heavy Cruiser = 80
4 Chimera Frigates = 80
1 Charybdis Class Carrier/Dagon Class Battle Carrier? I cant find the rules for the Dagon. Only the Charybdis. = 105 (charybdis)
3 Kappa Class escorts = 60

Total 645 Points.

But that is without upgrades, so I was hoping somebody could help out with fleshing my list out with upgrades so I know if I will need to buy more ships or not etc.

Cheers guys.

Upgrades will easily get you into 800pts as that's the same sort of models I have available to me and my group generally plays 800pts.

Have you already built the heavy cruiser as a heavy cruiser? If not I've found that 4 of the same tend to work better than 3 and 1 as then they can all benefit from the difficult target MAR.

The upgrades I always go for are:
- Difficult target on the cruisers -- it's amazingly good for it's points as it really helps against non-small ships

- Energy transer on anything that can have it -- aquans tend to have slightly lower attack dice compared to other races but then get energy transfer to help with that problem

- I'd take either 3 inteceptors on the battleship or upgrade it's wings and do 3 inteceptors and 3 bombers. The carriers I have normally run 2 groups of 5 bombers.

The rules for the Dagon should be under the battlecarrier rules in the pdf though you can't take a battlecarrier in patrol fleet games unfortuantely (unless I've missed an update as I noticed the mauraders can).

That helps a lot!

I havent purchased them but I think I will now that I have this info.

Difficult target on cruisers means the enemy hit me on a 5+?

Anything else you think I should know or any suggestions on what I should buy?

Cheers

Yes that's right difficult target will mean your opponent will need 5s to hit your cruisers with any of their tier 1 or tier 2 ships (so basically anything other than frigates, corvettes, escorts and SRS tokens). If you have a heavy cruiser in there with them it wouldn't get the benefit from that and so would probaly just take more of the fire initially as it would be easier to hit. I haven't actually played heavy cruisers yet though so they might do better than I anticipate.

Mines are really fun for clearing out lighter ships and if you get lucky medium ones too if it's linked mines from things like your cruisers. Just make sure you get the measurements right and don't catch yourself in your own mine blast though.

Also depending on who you are playing watch out for boarding actions as I've never had great success defending against them with aquans.

I'll keep those in mind.

As for the boarding actions, I actually got some Terquai Torpedo Ships and Assault ships to match the Terquai ground forces I purchased.

I heard these full in the gaps of an Aquan fleet?

Worth it?

Haven't tried them myself yet but people on the Spartan forums seem to really like them.

Ok thats cool.

Whats the deal with fleet alliances?

Can I just add anything from the Kurak alliance or is it more complex than that? I have the books coming to clear it up but im impatient haha.

Looks good. Do you know which units you'd run in the 800pt fleet?

Also don't forget to pay the points for the SRS tokens once you've bought the wing capacity as I couldn't see it listed above which would add another 80pts to your total (30 for the 6 wings on the battleship and then 50 for the ones on the carrier).

Based on everything else you've already got I'd recommend picking up the frigate and corvette box when you get a chance as then you'll have all the tier 3 ships you'll ever need for any size game

Well, I have no idea actually. I kinda just got ships I liked and then added it up properly.

Where do I find the cost of wings in the rules?

Also, I added it up, is 16 wings too much? I have 10 on the carrier and 6 on the battleship...

Ill add those boxes to my planetfall order because. The Terquai really bumped my points beyond my friends so i didnt add any more just to wait and see. But no harm having more!

Wings are 5 points each. They're covered the in SRS tokens bit of the main rulebook. I wouldn't say 16 is too many I quite often have that many in my fleet.

Thanks heaps for clearing all this up etc.

I'll let you know how much luck I have when I get some games in.

I think that difficult target only affects capital-class ships, unless I'm mistaken.

btw, I currently have a Dindrenzi and Terran fleet from the starter box, but I'm almost certainly going to get a full Aquan fleet because they're freaking awesome.

That is very true, its elusive target that makes normal ships hit you on 5, and capitals hit you on 6.

I have played a fair few games now and have a large fleet. Honestly these guys are so much fun. Just waiting on my ground fores now.

I can reliably take on terrans, hawkers and directorate at the moment, but the dindrenzi are hard to beat I found.

But yes, get an Aquan fleet, so much fun!

Awesome. I have already gotten in 3 games, 2 as Terrans and 1 as Dindrenzi, so I'm starting to get a decent grip on the way the rules work.

Have you tried Aquan heavy cruisers yet? I'm thinking that Energy Transfer (2), the additional base AD and additional HP will make up for the loss of difficult target, especially since Aquans have a lower damage output in general from their main weapons.

Not yet, I really like my basic cruisers. I shunt them in close to the rear of a Capital ship and run circles around them laying mines and keeping somewhat alive.

In saying that though, the heavy cruisers definitely pack the bigger punch, but im not sure if the benefits outweigh the points etc yet.

Might try them one day but for now I will stick to my standard cruisers.
