I need some advice from the wise deziens of the dakka Forums.
On page 56 of the BGB, the authors go into greaet detail describing a type of unit called "Artillery"
"Some weapons are so large and powerful that a single man could not hope to carry or operate them by himself. These weapons are more usually seen mounted on vehicles or as part of bunker emplacements, but they are sometimes utlised by infantry artillery teams, particularly on battlefields where terrain might not be suitable for vehicles. Sometimes, these mighty artillery weapons are mounted on tracks or wheels and operate under their own engines, or in the case of some races on highly advance anti-grav platforms, as they are simply to heavy to lug across a battlefield."
The BGB then goes on to describe in detail the rules governing movement, shooting, assault phase and morale. I will not quote these, because i would end up typing the whole page.
So, now the question, what units are considered artillery: a two man heavey weapons team (e.g. heavy bolter, auto cannon, las cannon, mortor), an eldar weapons platform, a basilisk? For example, a basilisk, is mounted on tracks, operates under its own engine. Given those, its crew could then become ablative sheilding, on a 1-4 i ht a crew man with my (pick the anti vehicle weapon of choice) not the basilisk itself. Or it could be the "crew served weapon" which would answer a question Mauled posed, no a crewman for a heavy bolter may not fire his lasgun because "Artillery crewmen may not fire as long as the unit still contains gun models" (p 56 Shooting)
The terminology is confusing to me here and I would appreciate any help I can receive sorting this out. Thanks.
