Okay, I'm very new to Warmachine, like very very new. So I've been toying around with what I think I want to make my force at 35pts, as such I have a couple options and was curious to get a more experienced perspective on my ideas.

List 1

Issyria
-Hypnos
-Phoenix
Min Housguard Riflemen
Max Mage Hunter Infiltrators
Arcanist
Arcanist
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Ghost Sniper
Mage Hunter Assassin

List 2

Issyria
-Aspis
-Phoenix
Shyeel Battle Mages
-Soulless Escort
Arcanist
Arcanist
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
House Shyeel Artificer
Elara
-Banshee

List 3

Issyria
-Hypnos
-Hyperion
Max Houseguard Halberdiers
Arcanist
Arcanist
House Shyeel Artificer
Mage Hunter Assassin

So the only thing set in stone obviously is that I want Issyria as my Warcaster. All of these lists have been built with only theory crafting at my disposal, so any input, advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

First off, just be aware that Issyria isn't the easiest caster to start/learn the game with, and she is weaker at 35pts because she has no damage output herself. Try and keep her safe and be prepared to lose often when you are starting out - she is a great caster but I found she has a steep learning curve.

Anyway, as a general rule I would say Issyria should always have two damage dealing units in her list. Her feat works better the more stuff you have to make use of it, you just have to balance this with late game pieces in the form of jacks. At 35pts you aren't going to have the points for too much stuff, so realistically should be looking at 2 units + a heavy and then adjusting from there. The first list comes closest to this, and is probably the best list here, but you ideally would want the Riflemen to be a full unit and have the relevant UAs in there.

Starting from the bottom here:
In the third list, Halberdiers really need their UA and ideally a Thane as well. This module works really really well with Issyria, it has a huge threat range and hits incredibly hard. This list imo has gone too heavy on jacks, Hyperion is a great option for her, but is basically two heavies worth of points - and 3 heavies at 35pts to probably too much. If you drop Hypnos (and at least 1 of the Arcanists) you can get the attachments for the Halberdiers and probably another infantry unit. You also probably don't need the Artificer at 35pts when you have Hyperion - his job is usually to keep Issyria alive and she can just hide behind the huge base to keep herself safe in this list. An Artificer is more important if you are running more infantry and don't have a dedicated jack to be hiding behind.

The second list is also has too many points in jacks - Battle Mages are really a support piece to pull heavies out of position (except with Rahn, where they can do some good damage on his feat turn), which essentially means that this list is just 2 heavies, 2 models which are there to keep your caster alive and some support pieces. This one needs some major rework imo - Elara probably shouldn't be considered at 35pts, you definitely don't need a Shield Guard and an Artificer to babysit Issyria and you need at least one big damage dealing unit (Halberdiers, Sentinels, Invictors, Strike Force etc).

As I said before, the first list is probably the best. You definitely want to swap the Ghost Sniper out for a second MHA though - they get much more from Issyria than the Snipers and work better in pairs anyway. I would also trade eEiryss for 3Eiryss, the Infiltrators really need the AD and Reform means you will get more than 1 turn of work out of them. Ideally you want the Riflemen to be a full unit + UA, but the only place to trim points is Hypnos. I wouldn't call this list too jack heavy (its close), but you probably don't need to arc nodes, so could consider swapping things around here (Banshee + Chimera still gets you an arc node + a heavy for example).

I want to first say thanks for the reply, and the feedback.

First off I do understand that Issyria is a tough caster to use well, but I really like her model and a challenge is never to be shied away from.

But taking your various bits of advice into consideration... how about...

List 1

Issyria
-Hyperion
Max Dawnguard Sentinels
Max Houseguard Halberdiers
-Houseguard Officer and Standard
Houseguard Thane
Arcanist
Mage Hunter Assassin

List 2

Issyria
-Gorgon
-Phoenix
Max Houseguard Riflemen
-Officer and Standard
Max Mage Hunter Infiltrators
-Eiryss UA
Arcanist
Mage Hunter Assassin
Mage Hunter Assassin

Do either of those work better you think?

As an aside if I were to use a different Warcaster (keep in mind I know that would change my list significantly), but if I were to switch from Issyria due to the point scale, the others I would consider would be Ravyn or Kaelyssa. That being the case, which of those would you say would be the better one to lean towards?

Yeah both those are much better. I find 1 heavy + 2 units is a good base for all our casters tbh. First list I would consider changing one of units to a shooting unit, but two melee units are definitely viable with Crusaders Call to help them out. Ideally you want the Sentinels UA, but the only way to get it in there is to drop the MHA - I would probably play a few games with this and see how it goes. Main concern with list list is control based casters - you can deal with high ARM with everything, Halberdiers can deal with high DEF (and BL helps as well) and Hyperion can deal with Stealth/heaps of infantry.

Other than the Gorgon the second list also good - sadly that jack is absolutely worthless and competes for the title of worst jack in the game. Those points could get you a unit of Stormfalls or an Artificer + a solo to try and keep Issyria alive longer. Even a 4pt Griffon will do more work than a Gorgon. This list may run into issues against high ARM with just the Phoenix and the MHA (swapping in the Stormfalls helps here), but otherwise has answers to pretty much everything.

Mage Hunter Assassin

and

Max Mage Hunter Infiltrators
-Eiryss UA
Stormfall Archers
Arcanist
Magehunter Assassin
Magehunter Assassin
