Hey Dakka. Now, I haven't bought an actual board game since 'Risk', and am thinking about getting 'Rune Wars'. Can anyone let me know what it's like and if there are any other options out there.

I tried looking at the Wayland Games website and the sheer amount available actually startled me a little. I might be trying to get my wife involved, so anything not as geeky would be great. Although I'll be having my brother round, as well as mates who are just as geeky as me. So I guess that kind of leaves things open ended.

Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Dakka!

Do you have a particular genre you're looking for? Or desired # of players? That'll help us make some good recommendations!

Smash Up is a card came that's really fun. It's pretty easy to teach people too.

Carcassonne is a really good tile table top game in the vein of Settlers of Catan.

Sorry to be a bit vague. Looking for games for 2-6 players ideally, and the genre doesn't really matter to be honest.

Any of the various Fluxx card games are fun too.

If you've got that range of players, you're probably looking at getting a few games then. Most games that are designed for more than two players really work best at the upper reaches of player limit. I would say that the vast majority of games out there also are designed for 2-4 players.

A few suggestions in the over 4 player range:

Zombicide (1-6 players)
Formula D (2-10 players)
Battlestar Galactica (3-6 players)
Sentinels of the Multiverse (2-5 players)
Eldritch Horror (1-8 players)

I also suggest looking at The Dice Tower(a popular games review site) as they have some great top 10 lists: http://www.dicetower.com/top_ten_lists.html

And check out episodes of Tabletop on YouTube...I've picked up a few games as a result of watching Wil Wheaton and buddies play different board games. They do a good job of showing off the mechanics(though sometimes they flub specific rules) so you can get a feel for whether you'd enjoy playing the game.
