I've been working on this guy for about 3 days now, on and off, and finally got most of the major painting and conversion work done. I usually don't show off my stuff outside of my Flickr account, but I'm really happy with how this guy's coming along, so I figured I'd put him up here.

He still needs ink washed, a bit of highlighting, and cleaned up a little around the claws and talons before he's sealed, but I'm still pleased with how he's coming, particularly with the wings I converted on to him. (And thanks again for the advice on pinning - they're the result!)

Whoa!

While it isn't exaclty my cup of tea (or piece of Fruit Stripe, as the case may be), it does show a nice attention to detail, with distinct areas of vastly different colors...

Thankya!

I basically took the paint scheme off a mix of poison toads and tortise shells. The ink wash will darken the tone down a little, and put a nice purple key into the claws and teeth before sealing. (This army's mostly been done in 3 main colors, 3 accent colors, and a purple ink wash) With luck, I'll have some decent pictures of the finished product soon.

Are you tempted to dip him?
I like it cause it makes me want to eat fruit loops and sponge cake.
Any reason why you painted the blades in blue instead of a bony colour?

Oh, I've been very tempted to dip him, but I used a brush to wash the rest of my army, so I'll cowboy up for him, too.

The blades and hooves are in a shadow grey because I looked at the claws on a lot of reptiles, and you'll see some that show up in that color. I thought it'd be a neat way to make them stand out against the usual boney/white/pinkish ones you tend to see, and also make them seem a bit hardened or honed for the cleaving.

Well, an ink wash and some tweaking after work later and we get... http://www.flickr.com/photos/bzarcher/132083739/ !

My only complaint is that my camera either shows the inking really well, or color balances some of it out. I tried a few pictures without the flash to get a better look at it, but it's not that impressive: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bzarcher/132083781/in/photostream/

But, he does look quite good in person, and I'm glad to be done with him, since I need to finish his ground-bound brother, 16 more gaunts, 10 stealers, and the elite 'fexes before I'm finished with these boys. (And then I get to think about a display base, if I have time before GD: Chicago!)

Last update on this - I got a matte finish seal down onto him to protect the paint, and though it changed the ink wash affect a bit, I do like how it makes him look a bit more weathered: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bzarcher/134563828/

Also did his groundpounding brother: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bzarcher/134563762/

Thanks for all the feedback on these. Even if it mostly made me want to buy some gum!
