Did you ever wonder what happened to the Aero shuttle from Voyager? The show’s writers have given the explanation that the shuttle was never installed because it wasn’t ready when Voyager was sent to DS9. This was supposedly done to avoid stepping on the toes of (the then upcoming) Star Trek Insurrection, which had a scene with the “Captains Yacht”. We now bring you the real story.

The USS Voyager has been hailed by a mining colony located on the far side of a dark matter nebula. The colony is interested in trade with all species. Finding few friends since they reached the Delta Quadrant, Captain Janeway believes this to be an opportunity to replenish supplies. However the captain does not feel it necessary to divert the entire ship, but instead it would be better to send an away team in a shuttle. Commander Chacotay is placed in charge of the away team. Preliminary scans show that the nebula emits a radiation that would cause too much stress on the shields of a standard shuttle. Chief Engineer Torres believes the shields of Voyager’s Aero shuttle are strong enough to withstand the stress. Fortunatly the Aero shuttle has been equipped with holo emitters, so the Doctor can accompany the crew to monitor for any signs of radiation sickness.

The Areo shuttle team consists of Commander Chacotay, Ensign Kim, and the Doctor. Active scans show all is well with the colony and the away team is signaled for landing. Upon entering the nebula all communications are lost with the miners. Ensign Kim is not able to detect any trace of the colony. Buried on a low level subspace ban Kim finds a masked transmission coming from a prob. As the crew attempt to decrypt the probe long range sensors indicate that 4 ships have just dropped out of warp. Chacotay quickly sends out a distress signal, but 4 Kazon warships stand between the away team and Voyager.

Ok enough of the narrative this is Voyager vs. Kazon. We tried to keep all upgrades limited to things that were actually on Voyager at the time they were dealing with the Kazon. So no transphasic torpedoes here. We also decided to use the 3 player set up to show the Kazon moving in on the shuttle with Voyager trying to intercept. Also the USS Raven will be standing in for the Aero shuttle. We made some special rules for this scenario.

1) Voyager or the Aero shuttle can use transporters to rescue crew from a ship if they are within range 1-2 spend an action and disable shields or the other ship has no shields.
2) The Kazon can capture crew (with boarding parties) if they bump a ship that has no shields or a ship that has been destroyed.

Set up

Turn 1
The Aero shuttle takes refuge in the nebula, two raiders move to intercept. Two Kazon ships break off to go after Voyager as Captain Janeway arrives to rescue her crew.

Turn 2
Voyager strips the shields off of nearest raider. The Raider returns by using its photonic charges, taking off one shield and giving Voyager and aux token.

Turn 3

Voyager destroys the damaged the Raider w/Photons. The remaining Raiders return fire w/photonic charges and destroying 3 shields and give Voyager 2 aux tokens.

Turn 4
Voyager takes out 2 shields on the Relora. The Relora hits Voyager for 3 damage. Voyager uses of Sacrifice, disables Janeway, and sets two evades to avoid any damage. However Voyager loses her last shield.

Turn 5
Voyager moves to put some distance between themselves and the Kazon. The Aero shuttle moves in to protect their would be rescuer. The Kazon focus in on the shuttle.

The Relora takes out the Aero in one volley. The shuttle is now a drift and has lost main power.

Turn 6
Voyager tries to shake off the Kazon while captain Janeway is incapacitated.

Turn 7
Voyager managers to dodge incoming fire from the Raiders and hits one back for some shields.

Turn 8
The Relora sends a boarding party over to the Aero. The Raiders miss hitting Voyager.

Chakotay, Harry, and The Doctor are now prisoners of the Kazon Nistrim.

Turn 9
Voyager finally gets rid of its aux token and enables Janeway. Voyager takes a shield off of a raider. The Kazon in return deal 2 damage to Voyager.

Turn 10
Both Kazon ships take damage in a foolish attempt to cut off Voyager.

Voyager destroys the closest Raider making the odds 2-1.

Turn 11
Voyager misjudges the Kazon position and bumps the Raider. The Relora finally rejoins the fight.

Voyager destroys the last Raider at point blank range. The Relora whiffs terribly.

Turn 12
Voyager and the Relora exchange target locks. Voyager destroys Relora’s last shield and gives the Kazon 3 hull damage all without using its target lock.

Voyager barley escapes the Kazon’s arcs.

Turn 13
Voyager and the Relora play circle around the asteroid. The Relora use Seska to disable Paris to cut down Voyager’s evade dice. Instead of bringing Paris back, Voyager beams back the missing away team. Voyager also hands the Kazon another point of damage.

Voyager again avoids the Kazon arcs, lucky #$&@

Turn 14
The Kazon grow tired of the ring around the asteroid game and break out of the circle. Even with a target lock Voyager only lands one hit, the Kazon remain defiant and roll an evade. Using their particle beam weapon the Kazon deal 2 damage to Voyager. Both ships now only have 1 hull remaining.

Turn 15
The Relora enables its Particle Beam and Culla discards Seska for a target lock. Voyager locks onto the Relora.

Voyager takes no chances and disables Tuvok for a 6 die torpedo attack. The Relora takes 3 damage and is destroyed.

Sensors show that more Kazon ships are on the way. Voyager is badly damaged, but no casualties have been taken and the away team has been rescued. Captain Janeway realizes that Voyager cannot stay and fight, she decides to cut her loses and retreat. Unfortunatly retreating means leaving the Aero shuttle behind. Not willing to let Federation technology fall into Kazon hands, Captain Janeway uses the shuttles command codes to initiate a self destruct sequnce. Voyager will have to get along without the Aero shuttle and continue on its long trip home.

Omadon's Realm

Very enjoyable.

Just like the DS9 defiant and bop vs dominion cardies, this went right down to a ship to ship duel on last few hull points.

And I'm pleased with the outcome, but then I hate the kazon with a real passion.

As I was the person flying the Kazon, I was hoping for a different out come but in the end it was very thematic. I was pleased with how the Kazon operated as a fleet. The Relora is definitely the missing link for them. I still can't believe Mrs. Baldrick managed to escape my arc 2 turns in a row. I think there was some shenanigans there I also didn't expect her to enable Janeway when she did, thought for sure was going to keep running. Must have been distracted by those feminine whiles.
