Hello,my name is cory, long time interest in warhammer but never got to far passed collecting a few models and bashing up some very bashed together scenery, looking to get more into the game and find some people to play with.
over the passed year i have been looking to start playing after finding my old vampire counts models from when i was younger and a splattering of others from around 15 years ago and some more recent additions.
One of the main things holding me back from flying into it and starting up a fresh collection that I'll be wanting to play with is the remoteness of my location and the apparent lack of local players.

so i was wondering what are good ways to make contact with others who play the game in remote areas ?

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to Dakka!
As for finding players, Dakka has a nice player finder app http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/player_finder.jsp

other than that, just put it out there that you play and people will either say the same thing or not. best of luck!

The player app is useful. As is posting online forums asking if anyone in your town plays. If their are any gaming stores near you they may also play warhammer or other games.

There are also programs like vassal that allow you to play 40k over the internet. I have no idea how to use it myself but its an option even if you miss out on the specticle of the game.

Aside from the find a game forum, If you have a local hobby shop or spot where folks play MTG. It is a good place to start asking around. Even ask the shop owner if they know anyone, because we are an addicted bunch and have probably asked them to carry models .

Thank you for the advice and the friendly welcomes,

I had a look at the player finder but there appears to be no one around me, the closest GW i know of is over a hours drive away, from memory there is a modelling store around the same distance away that sells a variety of things and host games/advertises for advents.
Need to get myself a working car so i can start haunting places and make some contacts.

the building of scenery has been growing on me as something to fly into and see how i go as well as conversions after reading tutorials and looking around at various things, start small and try get some skills up then take on something large and ambitious seems a solid plan for next winter when i'm cooped up going stir crazy
I realized after posting this there is a sales section on here which answered most my other questions too.
