Hello guys, I was expecting this to already be here somewhere (if true), it constitutes news by simply being newsworthy if true.

Long story short I have been told that a load of gw managers were sent to Nottingham recently, the reason is that the company has had a large amount of stock bought by someone (I don't know who), I was also told that this new person has bought this stock as he likes the company or some such.

Not sure if I believe it myself, as I couldn't find anything online to support it, so take it as you will

GW is legally obliged to notify - via their website and media - any changes in shareholding.

They will show any major changes on their site in the investor relation sections.

Last report is showing Rountree (new CEO) and declaration of his holdings.

There's no evidence to support this, there's almost 32m shares in circulation, and if you check the share volume (shares bought and sold) here..

https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=GAW.L

There's not been enough stock bought recently to make a dent in that, even if it were all being purchased by the same organisation/individual.

It is possible that the equity deal has been negotiated off the floor, which is common with large acquisitions to avoid spikes in the share price, and as a consequence there wouldn't be any evidence in the share trackers etc.. but I'd be dubious.

I'd be more inclined to believe a takeover bid at this point in all honesty (and I'd be skeptical about that.)

Thanks very much, glad you could find something, like I said if it's true it's newsworthy, but I find no evidence to support it either.

Apparently someone who has no idea how the stock market works, what a public company is, or that there are, like, laws and stuff about finance and numbers an' that.

Now, I'm not a lawyer in the UK, but I'm reasonably certain insider trading is illegal there too.

There is a specific set of circumstances where this could be true and legal, but it doesn't seem likely for reasons I've already mentioned, plus letting your staff know so far in advance of a public announcement is stupid for exactly the reasons that cause this thread to be created.

Email them at 8.30am in advance of an 11am public announcement? Fair enough, but call them all in to HO days in advance? Not as likely.

Was this where this rumor could of originated:

http://www.fool.co.uk/investing/company-comment/2014/11/20/a-warren-buffett-small-cap-you-may-have-missed-games-workshop-group-plc/

Sounds like with the right amount of garbling the original message, you could get someone eventually to say that a juicy target for a buyout is being bought out.

Makes sense. I love the article. It's funny how a market analyst is able to see things that GW management seem incapable of..

There is one Warren Buffet principle that leaves the investment thesis in Games Workshop crumbling… Buffett once said: “I try to buy stock in businesses that are so wonderful that an idiot can run them. Because sooner or later, one will”

Games Workshop’s great product offering meant success was its to lose, and unfortunately management seem to be doing their best to destroy these fantastic qualities from the inside.

Prices have been sky-rocketing, with customers claiming box sets sell for 50-100% more than a few years ago. Worryingly, revenue fell 8% last year, so the number of boxes sold must have dropped off rapidly. The company doesn’t mention volumes in its annual report, which could be telling.

The company has also taken the decision to turnthe majority of their stores into one-man operations. This will save millions, but who is going to recruit the next generation of gamers if there is not enough staff to play demo games?

While I love the business and its strengths, it is losing customers that have been fiercely loyal for years. I’m not expecting a change of strategy from new CEO Kevin Rowntree because he has been part of these changes as COO for years.

As was mentioned before, a publicly traded company is required to report any major changes in share ownership such as what they reported last year. It's possible that this rumor is a year behind.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do
