Economy Adds 321,000 Jobs In November, Unemployment Holds Steady

Eyder Peralta Twitter The November jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the U.S. job market continues to improve at a steady pace.
Here are the two big numbers from Friday's report:
— The economy added 321,000 jobs — much more than the 214,000 produced in October, and much more than the estimated 200,000 a month needed to keep pushing down the unemployment rate.

BLS — The unemployment rate, which is calculated using a survey, held steady at 5.8 percent.

The BLS also revised both the September and October numbers. Combined, those months saw about 44,000 more jobs added than previously reported.
The Associated Press adds:
"The large gains come after the economy expanded from April through September at its fastest pace in 11 years. The additional jobs should help boost growth in the coming months.

"But the large increases are not yet lifting most Americans' paychecks."

Don't throw a party yet.

When you have two successive quarters of ~4% annualized GDP growth, the economy has to add jobs to keep up at some point.... right?

Also the unemployment rate remained steady, but so did the civilian workforce participation rate.... at 62.8%, it’s still near lows not seen since the Jimmah Administration.

I find it a little odd how people seem to claim the USA is last with a lot of things and yet our unemployment rates seem to be not too bad compared to other countries. I hear some places in europe have it real bad or at least did. I guess it's just good to know the usa's doing something right for a change or at least it seems so.

You're telling me there's a bunch of new jobs in October and November in the United States?

Huh, I wonder if there's anything that could possible precipitate that kind of growth in the third quarter.

I hope it is better in the US than our situation.

We've had "real employment growth" in the UK for a couple of years, but what it really means is people going off unemployment to become self-employed or get crappy part time jobs because it is better than nothing.

Real pay is stagnant.

I always thought they seasonally adjusted the numbers.

They are.. but, it's a statistical "guess" as it attempts to measure and remove the influences of predictable seasonal patterns. (ie, Xmas)

We're trending in the right direction, but we need to do much better on the "Labor Force Participation" number.

Its the same here. The unemployment numbers from thr beaureau of labor are misleading as they dont account for underemployment or those who drop out of the labor market (which is defined as exhausting ones six month unemployment benefits)
