So, found out about this game by pure luck, and I have to say it's one of the coolest games I've played in a long time. http://subnauticagame.com/

Here's a pretty good Let's Play that gives a good look at the game. The other episodes are worth a look too if you're interested, but they're not as cool as the first episode. Skip to about 4 minutes in if you'd like to skip to gameplay

Bought it a couple of days ago and have to say it's pretty sweet. For being essentially pre alpha, its already a beautiful and quite interesting premise. To sum it up, you're part of a colonization effort on a new planet. Something causes the ship to crash, and you're the only one to make it off the ship alive. Trapped in the middle of an open ocean, your forced to scavenge and explore for supplies to survive. There's a ton of wildlife, some friendly, some not, as well as flora and minerals.

As a guy whose biggest fear is the open ocean, its a really gripping premise. Finding a new creature, and figuring out if it's food, or wants to make you food, is always cool, and the first time you see some of the bigger creatures is pretty crazy (some are bigger than a bus). They're still adding new creatures, equipment, and other things as it's still in very very early development, so I can't wait to see where this game goes. I've been exploring and managed to get down to 470 meters, where it's pitch black, and it's very clear that there's supposed to be things down there (you can hear what almost sounds like whispering)

Anyone else been playing this? Picked it up for $18 and think it twas worth every penny. Some heads up though, there's no saving at the moment, and the game can get a bit resource intensive at times, although my piece of crap laptop manages to it just fine on lowest settings. I mostly think it's worth it as it can only get better from here, but I can see how most would rather wait till the game is a bit more polished. According to their website, this isn't even considered an alpha yet, so I can't wait to see it a few months from now.

Interesting premise for sure.
It looks a bit grindy though? Whats that aspect like?

This sums it up better than I can.

Not really grindy at all, at least from my experience. I had a fully working Sub and was putting around within 20 minutes or so once I figured out where to find the harder to get minerals.

Right now it's more like an exploration game, as they haven't really added any endgame or objectives yet. Spend a little while to make some dive tanks and a sub, and then explore to your heart's content. From the way the devs talk though, that'll change over time and they'll add objectives for you to do, although what those will be I have no idea.

You can also play in "Free Mode" where you don't need to worry about food or water and just have to focus on not drowning.
