So the question arisis, with GW having the fish tactic on thier website now, is that an aknwoledgement and prescedent that you use a vehicles hull even if it is on a flying base?

A fish or a hammerhead would be unchargeable if you were to use the base instead of hull, also where would passengers disembark from and where would you measure shooting from?

The best solution I see is that infantry/jump infantry on bases use thier base and vehicles on bases use thier hull.

One problem with that solution is that you do run in to the issue of modelling being a disadvantage, the forgeworld tempest is a really good example of this because its footprint is about double what a normal speeder is and more than that of old metal speeders. (not GT legal but still used by a lot of players including myself)

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

It is best played, using the vehicles hull, so that it is at least standard across the board for all vehicles. Though, I give this thread a good 5 seconds before the RAW people blame me of cheating or worse. But if you really think it is an issue, discuss it with your oponent before the game.

I agree that using hulls for all vehicles, and bases for non-vehicles (ie flyers/jump infantry/jetbikes), makes the most sense.

I suppose I should throw in a caveat for non-flying vehicles: Walkers should use their base, not the model. Oh, except for the Defiler...

Mahu, you are such a dirty cheater.  j/k

Everyone I know uses the hull instead of the flying base.

Know however, that:
1. you only technically are supposed to use the hull if there is no base.
2. you are technically not allowed to remove the flying base in preference for the hull, as the hull is not a "base", and therefore you would be using a smaller base size (zero) than the one provided with the model.

Based walkers are the only vehicle that I can think of for which I would use the base for measurement purposes.
