So I just joined the hobby back in August and recently started reading the Eisenhorn trilogy as my first delve into 40k literature. With that I've taken an interest in the character Alizabeth Bequin and how she handles being a blank and how her presence effects those around her. How, her unavoidable genetic defect makes her an "untouchable", but gives her the useful power of being a psychic blank. (Please don't spoil anything about the future of this character for me :c )

Fast forwarding to a pathfinder character I was making the other night. I've wanted to play an oracle for a while now but couldn't find a curse to fit my character fluff in the past. Thumbing through the SRD I found a 3rd party publication curse that, based on my recent Bequin fancy, really struck my interest. The curse is called Friendless. Check it out:

Alone and despised, you draw power from your inner resolve.

You do not gain your Charisma bonus to Diplomacy checks, and if you use Diplomacy to make a request of someone, their attitude worsens one step (but no worse than unfriendly) after the request succeeds or fails.

However, you gain your Charisma bonus to Sense Motive checks and saving throws versus spells and spell-like abilities of the enchantment school, in addition to your Wisdom.

At 5th level, you gain a +3 morale bonus to Disguise, Intimidate, and Stealth checks, and always treat those as class skills.

At 10th level, you are constantly protected as per the spell nondetection, and your morale bonus to Disguise, Intimidate, and Stealth increases to +6.

At 15th level, you are constantly protected as per the spell mind blank.

I went on to make a battle oracle with this curse and picked self buff spells for fighting and various shielding spells. (Trying to avoid making her super magic heavy) Now if only the people I played Pathfinder with knew 40k so I could better explain the nature of a blank to them. I'm having a tough time roleplaying a character who really doesn't do anything wrong, but whom people need to naturally dislike.

How would you guys explain to people outside of 40k the "wrongness" that is the aura that untouchables put off?
Any suggestions?
Ever made a character inspired by the 40k universe? c:

I'm afraid I can't help too much with that, other than the vague idea that something just feels "off" about the character.

Your title did remind me of an idea I had for a custom class once. I was going to call it the "skeptic" with the entire idea being that he just doesn't believe in magic, and he disbelieves in magic so hard that magic doesn't work around him. He'd get stuff like spell resistance, a certain number of "reflexive counter magic" spells per day, and the ability to "smite magical creature". The capstone ability would just be a antimagic field centered on him at all times.

The friendless curse fits the idea of a "blank" well, and that would probably cover the general wrongness your looking for. A lot of people misunderstand charaisma- it is not how well you are naturally liked or how beautiful you are(although Alizabeth is), more the force of your personality. A high charasima score in this case means you naturally attract people because something is "off" about you. Alizabeth receives a lot of attention(including her life pre inquisition), but people notice she is different.

A good way to roleplay this interaction would be with other spellcasters, or supernatural abilities. For example, a wizard casting a buff spell on you would not fail, but would feel something "weird". Likewise, a bard would notice their performance is moving you, but they are getting a creepy vibe from how you enjoy it.

Battle oracle is a good way to avoid dipping inquisitor for skills and proficiencies. Although you could drop a feat on hand crossbow proficency, then two weapon fighting and dump feats into archery if you wanted a dual laspistol thing. Or get guns if those are allowed in the setting. Don't take the Battlecry revelation from your mystery, it would be a bit out of character but the rest are good.

If you want, and your DM allows evil alignments, or is not super strict on paladins, the antipaladin's aura of cowardice is very fitting for the aura a blank puts off. If you got 3 levels in antipaladin, you also get touch of corruption which could represent your anti-psyker powers. Both classes are CHA based, and you could modify your code to say you serve the Emperor; answering to nobody and doing whatever it takes.

If you want to stay single class, or DM won't allow antipaladin levels, or the like, see if they will just let you buy the aura of cowardice as a feat, prerequisite with some intimidate ranks or something. It only works on opponents, so it won't hurt the party.

I currently play a Grippli Inquisitor (preacher subtype) who looks and acts very similar to Adrastia(except he is a 2ft tall poison dart frog). I serve death, which is a sentient god in this campaign. Death is largely unworshiped, but a lot of the major bad guys worship him. Although death is neutral, just being death (my domain is repose, so I see death in the positive light), our enemies have corrupted this for personal gain. I get to dakka with a crossbow while shouting "death to the heretics". See what your DM has in the setting to fit an Emperor, Imperial cult, etc. The grimdark nature of the inquisition alone should scare your fellow players, even if they don't know 40k.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.
