Hey guys. I had an interesting and fun game last night as my first dip into the new Necron codex. Must say, I wasn't disappointed. So, I figured I'd share my experience with you guys on here. I didn't bother recording it for my Channel or anything, so It'll just be a run down of what lists we used and what happened.

My friend had 2000 points of Tzeentch and Khorne Daemons. His list looked a little like this:

Scarbrand

Lord of Change

20x Pink Horrors

20x Bloodletters

6x Bloodcrushers

15x Flesh Hounds

Skull Cannon

Defiler with Phlegm Bombardment

6x Screamers

Burning Chariot

So, I was pretty terrified of Scrabrand and the Lord of Change, for good reason. But, I had faith in my army. Here's my list:

Decurion Detachment

Reclamation Legion:

Overlord on Barge - Voidreaper, Phylactery, Phase Shifter, Res Orb, Gauntlet of Fire

20x Warriors

10x Warriors - Ghost Ark

10x Gauss Immortals - Night Scythe

3x Tomb Blades - Shieldvanes

Monolith

Royal Court:

Imotekh the Stormlord

1x Cryptek - Chronometron, Solar Staff

1x Lord - Res Orb

Shard of the Nightbringer

5x Deathmarks

So, the game type was Big Guns Never Tire, he had 3 Heavy Supports, I only had one. Dawn of war Deployment, he deployed first and went first. His Pink Horrors were Deep Striking, as well as my Deathmarks. I also kept my 20 Warriors with Imotehk, Cryptek, and Lord in Reserves.

Turn 1:

Flesh Hounds scouted up, then moved 12". Uh oh. Everything moved up the board, my Tomb Blades were deployed within a ruin on an objective that had rolled Scatterfield, so their 3+ Cover was sufficient against the Ordnance on the Defiler. Winds of Chaos produced a result of 4, so everything in his army had a 6+ Invuln. Really good for me. His Grimoire went off on the Hounds, so they had a 4+. Otherwise, nothing happened in the shooting phase. So, he ran everything.

On my turn, as my monolith was pretty much at my line of Deployment, My 20 Warrior unit came out of the portal right off the bat, and Scarbrand was within their sights. Nightbringer moved towards the Hounds, and his first random shooting attack of the game was Time's Arrow, which he missed with. Great job. Then, he dealt a wound or two with his Gaze of Death against the hounds. The Overlord moved up, flamed them, and his barge shot at them. A few wounds, not bad. Ark and passengers opened up on the hounds and dealt a few wounds as well. Only half my Warrior unit was in LoS to Scarbrand, but the half that could see, as well as Imotehk and his posse opened fire. Imotehk dealt a good 2 wounds, since ap2 and his 6+ Invuln was in my favor. And between the Solar Staff, another Staff of Light, and my warriors, they finished off Scarbrand with ease. That was a sigh of relief for me. Then, my overlord decided to charge the Flesh Hounds to deny their charge on me. He completely whiffed his rolls, rolling a mere 2,2,1 for armor saves, then rolled 3, 3, 3 for reanimation. So, popped the Res Orb and saved 2 of them. Didn't do any wounds to the Hounds. Ctan failed to charge and lend aid, but oh well. The Overlord got his wound back at the end of the turn with the Phylactery.

Turn 2:

Pink Horrors came in and Deep Struck not too far from my monolith. My Deathmarks, sensing their chance, Intercepted them, Deep Striking without mishap and plucking 5 of them away while their invuln was still a 6+. Go Deathmarks! Bloodletters moved up, their focus was on my Overlord. Bloodcrusher now had a juicy target of Deathmarks ahead of them. Everything else was closing in. I popped my Solar staff during his turn, so my Warrior squad was essentially Invisible, thought between Bolt of Change, 2 failed Warpflames and a Template targeted on another unit, I still lost a good 8 or so warriors, even with a 5++ and 4+ RP. My morale was lowering by the second as his army closed in, and my warriors were being mulched so quickly. The Grimoire was now on the Hounds again. Shooting phase produced a Khorne's Wrath, which did a glance to my monolith. He also Penetrated my Ghost ark with the Ordnance, so bye bye Quantum Shielding. In the Assault Phase, his Bloodletters made a 9 or so inch charge into my overlord. The Bloodcrushers made a 10' charge to my Deathmarks. This was not good. My Deathmarks, though getting to attack first because of terrain, did a good two wounds, but were then mulched. My Overlord, having ti issue a challenge, challenged his Bloodreaper. His Bloodreaper rolled double 6s on his wound rolls, and obviously I failed both RP rolls, so Instant Death it was. Then they consolidated closer to me.

On my turn, my Night Scythe came in and dropped it's cargo near the Flesh hounds. The Monolith moved to intercept the Bloodcrushers with it's Particle Whip. I replenished a good solid One Necron warrior with my ghostark, and they moved closer to the Bloodletter and Hounds. Now was my chance to shoot, AND charge. Thanks Relentless! The Ctan moved towards them as well, and the Tomb Blades came around their flank to aid as well. In Shooting, My Ctan killed maybe one Hound with Gaze of Death, and shot Cosmic Fire through a ruin (Woo, a power that was useful) at the Bloodletters, incinerating a good 7-8 of them. Then, the tomb blades and Warriors annihilated the Bloodletters to the man. Behind them, the Immortals, backed up by my Ghost Ark and passengers, opened up into the Flesh Hounds, and they were no more. My Monolith managed to Instant Death a Bloodcrusher, which would help a tad. The night Scythe locked on to the Burning Chariot, and in one volley of fire, it was dust. Things were turning around for the Crons, or were they?

Turn 3:

The Bloodcrushers advanced, closing in on my Warriors and Imotekh. The Lord of Change came down from his flying around, ready to take something on next turn. The Defiler also closed in on my Warriors. He was too close for comfort. Warp Storm produced Khorne's Wrath again, I believe. Rather interesting, though it didn't damage anything. The Grimoire was put on his Bloodcrushers as they prepared for their assault. In the Psychic phase he used Prescience on the Bloodcrushers as well. This was going to hurt. He began to soften the Warriors up more by firing everything the Defiler had at them, but only managed to kill 1-2. The Skull Cannon scattered off a tad, hitting some immortals as well, but their armor deflected it. Assault phase came, and the Defiler failed his 8" assault by a measly inch. Phew! I also decided not to fire Overwatch, and then opened fire on the Bloodcrushers that were charging in, managing no wounds. My Warriors, my beloved Imotekh, were toast. They made the charge, as forseen, and proceeded to inflict 19 AP3 wounds. One warrior was all that stood between the Crushers and my Cryptek, so I then popped my Res orb. That lowly warrior, bless his mechanical heart, tanked 12 AP3 wounds with his 4+++ rerollable. *cheers* Then the Cryptek failed a Look out, Sir! and took a wound, but the rest were saved by the warriors as well. My god. I then hit back and dealt 2 wounds to him, bring the combat to a draw.

On my turn, the Night Scythe decided to make his way back around the board next turn. The monolith and Immortals. sensing the Screamers that had been cautious all game, made their way towards their enemy. My Tomb Blades, Ctan, and GhosArk headed towards that Defiler, sensing their opportunity. The Monolith instagibbed a Screamer, and the Immortals chipped one off as well. The Ctan shot his mighty Transdimensional Thunderbolt at the towering Defiler, and missed. Good shootin, tex. He did manage a few wounds on the Bloodcrushers, aiding Imotekh though. The Ghost ark opened fire through a Ruin, and even after his 4+ cover, managed 3 glances. The Tomb Blades, however, didn't do anything to help the cause. But, the Monolliths Gauss Arrays, sensing a target, fired at the massive Daemon engine. Although staggered from the preceeding Ordnance, they managed a Glance, and brought the Daemon down! Then, during the assault phase, the Immortals made an 8" charge through terrain towards their target. The Screamers inflicted no wounds through the Immortals armor save, and the immortals proceeded to kill 2 of them! Then, Demonic instability took its toll, and another disappeared. Only one was left to stand against their deathless faces. Imotekh held his ground against the Crushers, slowly chipping wounds off of them, but lost a few warriors in the process.

Turn 4:

His Skull Cannon advanced to help that last Screamer. His Lord of Change jumped over towards the Ctan, ready to face him. The Pink horrors charged forward as well, to aid the Crushers in bloody assault. The Grimoire was once again granted to the Crushers, and the Lord of Change failed to Precognition himself. The Winds of Chaos produced The Dark Prince Thirsts, and actually glanced his own Skull Cannon! The shooting phase was over quick, and thus began another phase of combat. The Cannon charged my Immortals, killing 3 of them, and replenishing his lose hull point. The immortals failed to do anything, and were swept by the chariot. The Pink Horrors charged and reached their destination, as did the Lord of Change. The Bloodcrushers still could not do significant damage, as Imotekh himself stepped up and took the blows, though he was wounded once. Then, the Necrons struck back, killing a Pink horror or two, and the combat was yet again a stalemate. The Lord of Change tried to smack the Ctan, but was unsuccessful, and the Ctan managed a single wound. But they were locked in epic combat.

My Ghost ark dispatched it's crew towards the combat and replenished one warrior into the fray, and the monolith moved towards a mid-field objective. The Night Scythe circled back around onto the board and aimed his sights on the Skull Cannon. He managed no hull points, after his amazing shooting of, after rerolls, one hit. The Monolith, ever, hit the Screamer and the Cannon, and inflicted a Glance upon the cannon. The Screamer was saved by Tzeentch, curses. The Nightbringer turned his gaze upon the Pink Horrors, sending a few of them back into the Warp. The Tomb Blades turbo boosted across the board to try for an objective. Now to assault, as the warriors joined the fray. As the backup came in, Imotekh stood his ground, though his backup was made rather uneasy by the Daemons, and failed their Fear check. Even then, the combat swung in favor of the Necrons, as the few Crushers left were slowly chipped away, and numerous Pink Horrors died. Demonic Instability set in, and the Bloodcrushers were swept away, and many more horrors died. The Tide had turned for Imotekh. The Ctan was wounded in the combat against the Lord of change, and he didn't quite manage to do anything back, though, combat continued.

Turn 5:

The battle was nearing the end, and sensing this, the Skull cannon moved to intercept the Tomb Blades, and the Screamer boosted across the board towards the very same objective. The Grimoire was placed upon The Lord of Change himself, making this combat even more challenging between the two monsters. He also managed to grant himself Precognition. This could not end well. Onto Assault, the cannon charged in, but only killed one Tomb Blade that combat, and they stuck around. The Screamer secured the objective, preparing for the end game. Combat came, and Imotekh pushed his way out of assault, destroying the remaining Horrors. The consolidated towards mid field to make their way towards objectives. The Lord of change was beating on the nightbringer, though only managed a single wound. The Night bringer could not get through his incredible saves.

The 10 Warriors made their way towards the backside of the monolith, not quite sure of their objective yet. Imotekh moved towards the Tomb Blade combat, but was a bit far off. The Ghost ark itself kept a back field objective to itself. The Night Scythe did circles. Onto the shooting, the monolith opened at the screamer, but he jinked out of the way. The Nightbringer managed to roll a 15 for his Gaze, and even after his saves, sucked 2 wounds from the Lord of Change, healing himself. This would turn the tide. Another Tomb blade fell to the cannon, but the last one stuck around.

Turn 6:

The Lord of Change Grimoired himself, but it backfired! Things were looking up for the Ctan. He still managed Precognition, though. The cannon killed the last Tomb Blade, and consolidated towards the Monolith's objective. The Lord of change did another wound to the Ctan, but the Ctan wounded him back. The fight raged on!

The warriors emerged from the other side of the Monolith, within range of the Screamer. Imotekh advanced onto the Skull Cannon and opened fire, sending it back to the warp. The Warriors sent a volley of fire towards the Screamer, and it screamer back to where it came from. The Ctans gaze was averted, but the combat continued.

Turn 7:

Being the only Daemon left in the material realm, the Lord of Change tried his best to protect himself against the Ctan's blows, but even with Precognition and the Grimoire of True Names, he was felled at last, the Nightbringer victorious.

So, Necrons came out on top, just as strong as ever, but the Daemons were extremely terrifying and put up a really good fight. So far, enjoying the Newcrons and their new toys. Hope you guys enjoyed this battle report, and hopefully I'll get one recorded for our channel soon. See you guys then!

Thanks for the report!

I just picked up the book yesterday. How did you like the new RP rules versus the 5th edition version of RP, both in "feel" and effectiveness?

Menaphite Dynasty Necrons - 6000
Karak Hirn Dwarfs - 2500

How many lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?
-- Fifty-Four -- Eight to argue, one to get a continuance, one to object, one to demur, two to research precedents, one to dictate a letter, one to stipulate, five to turn in their time cards, one to depose, one to write interrogatories, two to settle, one to order a secretary to change the bulb, and twenty eight to bill for professional services.

Honestly, I was quick to jump the gun of saving that it doesn't fit Necrons as well fluff wise. Though, then I remember things like when Imotekh was fighting That space Marine captain, Helbrecht of whatever his name is, every time he would land a blow on him, his body would regenerate. And then I think of all the times a necron unit was been wiped out completely, and the rule never took effect. So now, not only is it directly better, but Necrons will almost ALWAYS get to roll for it, which makes a lot more sense. And, multi-wound models got a lot better, as they repair the damage as it happens, and Phylacteries actually make sense now.

Overall, I've very happy with it.

Very cool! Thanks.

I had the same initial grumbly reaction as yours, but then I realized how effective the new mechanic will be in almost every situation.

Yeah, plus it's more fluffy. And all of the formations are ridiculously ccol. They fit the fluff so well and give Necrons actual flavor in their army.

So far this codex is an A+ in my book.
