G'day all,
I'm building up a bit of a plot-idea for some future painting ideas, involving the Eldar, Dark Eldar, Harlequins, and Chaos Daemons (I'm here for painting and story, not for battling, as I imagine you can guess). However, my Google-fu failed me when I was looking to find occurrences of the Black Library in the fiction published by ... Black Library.
*sigh*
Anyone able to point me in the direction of any fiction/lore for the Black Library? Also, while you're at it, any fiction/lore where the Eldar and Dark Eldar have teamed up --- enough to justify their 'Battle Brothers' alliance rating?
Cheers,
Joshua

I assume the Eldar books about the Harlequins (what a shock) would feature the Black Library. Actually there is a Harlequin ebook collection on Black Library now: http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/harlequins-ebook-collection.html. As for the CE - DE alliance, there was an sort of alliance when (I think Iyanden got invaded by some Ork Waaaggh!) the Dark Eldars sarcastically aided a Craftworld for the giggles. There is also the Battle of Duriel where the Iyanden and CE once again worked together seemingly with no problem.

I don't believe the Black Library has ever actually been depicted. It's the end goal for the latter sections of Daemonifuge though.

The Black Library...a library located in the webway, containing infinite knowledge. Everyone wants in, nobody wants anyone else to get in, and the Harlequins don't want anyone in.
Ahriman is trying to enter and become a master of the universe, ascending to god hood and becoming the 5th god of Chaos. The Blood Ravens and Harlequins stopped him.
Tzeentch obviously wouldn't want him to get in, neither would and of the other chaos gods. That said, Ahriman is certainly powerful enough to bind daemons to his control and help him get into the library.
The IoM also wants in, I believe an inquisitor or two has gotten into it and left with a book or two.
Some scenarios I would paint up:
Ahriman + daemons vs Blood Ravens + Harlequins
Astra Militarum vs Harlequins + Dark Eldar/Eldar
Ahriman vs daemons + Harlequins

The final scenes of the Inquisitor War trilogy, the series with Jaq Draco, is either at or near the Black Library. Most of the final book is trying to find it if I remember right...

In the Valedor novel it follows Illic Nightspear, some Harlequins, and Dark Eldar teaming up to put some hurt on some nids.
The same Harlequin troupe(I don't recall it's name and they aren't mentioned specifically, but I read they're the same.) is featured in the Masque of Vyle novel where they put on a play for Dark Eldar, this novel is GREAT for understandin Harlequins and even features the Solitaire, Motley who is supposed to be in the Valedor novel, but I didn't notice him.
The Path of the Archon/ Incubus (maybe even the third book but I didn't read it) all feature Motley meeting various members of Eldar society and saving the day with them.
I especially like these novels because it features an Incubi , Morr upclose and his journey to forgiveness as Motley comes to convince him to aid him. As well as Motley meeting Vect, and clearly fearing him. Quite interesting considering the freighting nature of Solitaires and their prowress.
theirs 2 new short stories(I think they're new) featuring harlies.
One is simply called Faces, and truthfully I'm 3/4 the way through it and I still don't know what is going on, it's weird and don't recommend it. The second is called "The Victims Dance" where a troupe of Harlequins fight a squad of Space Wolves, haven't read it yet but is likely okay.
The Dark Eldar 7th edition codex may not feature rules for harlies but it does have a 2 page spread on them running you through them and how they get along in Commoragh. Since you likely may not want to buy that codex if you're not planning in playing to sum it up, harlequins go to Commoragh frequently, likely one of the few cities left in the Web Way if not the only on. Shadowseers are untrust worthy and bad luck, but none dare hurt them. They quite like Death Jesters as they're very dark and Dark Eldary, as they say a Death Jester may knock out two foes, skin one and cover the sleeping one in the deads flesh. They say that none dare cross the Harlequins for it will have bad consequences, except for Vect. So all in all Harlequins are welcome in Commoragh, just not trusted.
As for the three getting along? Apart from the Dark Eldars distrust I would say they all get along with each other quite well considering their so different in views and ways of survival. Unfortunately, I doubt Harlequins would allow any Dark eldar near the black library.
So, in terms of everyone getting along, Valedor, but it lacks the Harlequin point of view until the end and it's not much to mention. Masque of Vyle is an excellent read and is quite a good look at Harlequin life, and the life of the Solitaire.
Read the Path Novels if you're interested in the Solitaire Motley who is quite the character, if not lovable. Automatically Appended Next Post: Holy crap I actually think I may have been a tad helpful for once.
