Pre Game Thoughts
Dark Angels - I have a friend playing this list that I might take to the LVO. He has limited experience with bikes, but he has been on the receiving end a few times so he should know what to do. He got a great warlord trait and he will go first. He can use the grenade launchers and paladin to possibly snipe one of my princes. He also got great powers for his librarian except with me having so many dice I don’t see him getting very many off.

Daemons- I got great gifts on my rolls. I elected to keep the armor bane on both princes rather than sub out for Lash. I figured I may need to kill the knight and without iron arm on either I would be hard pressed. I hoped to kill the raptor with massed vector strikes or maybe Hellfire Gaze and Slaanesh Primary.

Deployment
Dark Angels
He elects to deploy just the two attack bikes, the five man bike squad with the librarian and the Paladin. The other three units and Sammael will infiltrate. (we made a mistake here, he had thought that Sammael was his warlord not the libby). Plus I think he would have been better served by putting the libby with the ignore cover in the black knights.

Daemons
I figure I am going to try and bait him into alpha striking me. I spread out so he can not infiltrate behind me and I can cover most of the objectives. I put the prince with endurance in the front along with Be’Lakor. I figure I have at worst a 5+ invul or 4+ cover and a 4+ FNP. I should be able to weather a turn of shooting. And then crush all his bikers.

After scout moves and infiltrators it looks something like this

(Actually, they are a little closer I can’t find the scout move picture)

I fail to seize and with that on to turn one.
Also the warp storm never did anything I won’t even be mentioning it in the report

Dark Angels Turn One
Maelstrom Objectives 1 & 5
He moves the command squad, the black knights and the melta squad forward. The two attack bikes go to objective 1. The librarian gets prescience off on the knight taking a wound from perils. He sells out on killing my daemon prince with the axe. He fires the black knights into him doing a ton of wounds. However with a 4+ jink and 4+ feel no pain I take one wound. However, the rad grenade hits and it is here I realize my first mistake. It lowers my toughness down to 4 and he then fires his paladin. I forgot that with the lowered toughness comes no fnp save. I make one of two cover saves and the daemon prince dies giving him first blood. The command squad and the other bike squad shoot at the other unit of horrors reducing them down to 2 models.

Daemons Turn One
Maelstrom Objectives 2 & 5
Vowing swift retaliation the Daemon MCs move forward to wreak havoc on the bike squads. The nurglings move forward to draw overwatch from the knights the horrors move forward to cast incursion to get a unit on to objective 2. I get cursed earth off on the big bird, create a unit of fiends, and get a endurance off on the prince. In a moment of abject stupidity I forget about Be”lakors powers because I did not have the cards out. Wish I would have cast either shrouding or invisibility on the other prince. Everyone heads for combat. The Prince and Be’Lakor wipe out the knights just barely (I rolled a lot of ones). The LoC and the KoS wipe most of the command squad except for Sammael with one wound and the apothecary and take no wounds in exchange. The command squad fails their hit and run roll. The nurglings lost a base to overwatch and the fiends move on to objective 2.
Maelstrom Dark Angels 2 Daemons 2

Dark Angels Turn 2
Maelstrom Objectives 1 & 3
The fire raptor comes in.
Luckily for me the two greater daemons are still in combat with the command squad. He moves up the other two bike squads along with the libby to try and put some wounds on Be”lakor wih perfect timing. The knight moves up to threaten the fiends and the attack bikes go secure objective 3.

Fire raptor and one unit of bikes wipe out the prince even with a 4+ invul and 4 + FNP. Man I wish I had cast shrouding. The one waist mounted quad heavy bolter finishes off the two man horror unit. The other bikes fail to do anything and the knight kills a few more horrors from the other unit and stomps all over the fiends. The greater daemons finish off the command squad and Sammael and move forward

Daemons Turn 2
Maelstrom Objectives 1 & 6
I guess it is bad to be a daemons prince. The KoS and Be”lakor move up to attack the bikes with the librarian. The blue unit of Horrors hunkers down to hold objective 1. The nurglings hug the wall of the fortress hoping no one notices them. The LoC flies over the raptor and amazingly manages to put three hull points in it vector striking. (it is nice to roll three sixes). The Keeper grimoires himself. Be”lakor wipes out the three man bike squad with a psychic scream, taking a wound from perils in the process. The keeper gets off a cursed earth also periling and taking a wound, and I fail a summoning. The LoC whiffs with hellfire gaze on the raptor. Belakor and the Keeper charge in and wipe out the bike squad with the librarian even with the 4+ save.
Maelstrom Dark Angels 4 Daemons 4

Dark Angels Turn 3
Maelstrom Objectives 4 & 6
The Dark Angels have been reduced down to two attack bikes, the paladin and the 1 HP remaining raptor. One bike moves up to assault the nurglings while the knight moves close to get a shot on the horrors. The other bike takes the long way around turbo boosting to get close to the knight. The fire raptor also moves close to the knight to get shots on the last unit of horrors. The combined fore from the knight and the raptor take out the horrors while the attack bike is locked in combat with one wound nurgling base.

Daemons Turn 3
Maelstrom Objectives 3 & 6
Well I only have three units left but he has only four and I can always make more. The LoC lands and moves over to objective three. The Keeper and Be’Lakor move back out of the knights charge radius. The keeper grimoires himself and casts cursed earth. I once again fail a six dice summoning. We each picked up one maelstrom that round
Maelstrom Dark Angels 5 Daemons 5

Dark Angels Turn 4
Maelstrom Objectives 1 & 6
Very fast turn. With only four units left not too much to move. The attack bike moves to take objective 1 that the blue horrors were holding for so long. The fire raptor moves off the board and the knight moves to take shots at Be”lakor and the Keeper. The other attack bike remains in combat with the nurgling base. The knight outs another wound on the Keeper. What really hurts is the attack bike kills off the nurglings and moves behind the knight giving him both maelstrom objectives.

Daemons Turn 4
Maelstrom Objectives 3 & 6
This is also a fast turn with only three units. The LoC moves so he can take shots at the lone attack bike. The Keeper moves toward Objective three so he can summon some daemonettes. Be’lakor takes to the air to go threaten the other attack bike. The keeper grimoires himself. In the psychic phase he casts cursed earth and summons a unit of daemonettes. The LoC casts a 3 dice flickering fire at the attack bike and manages to get all of seven shots, which do nothing. This hurts as I only get one objective.
Maelstrom Dark Angels 6 Daemons 5

Dark Angels Turn 5
Maelstrom Objectives 1 & 2
The fire raptor comes one and targets the Keeper. Both attack bikes hop on objectives 1 & 3. While the knight moves up to get some shots on the Keeper and Daemonettes and hold objective 2. Between the knight and the raptor they knock the Keeper down to one wound. They also kill three of the daemonttes.

Daemon Turn 5
Maelstrom Objectives 1 & 3
The keeper moves back towards objective 1 and close enough to spawn daemons on to objective 2. The Lord of Change flies over one attack bike vector striking it causing one wound. Be’Lakor moves so he can cast psychic scream on the bike and run to cover objective 2 if necessary. In the magic phase I get off cursed earth on one dice and a five dice summoning, creating another unit of daemonettes. Be’Lakor casts psychic scream on the one attack bike and of course he rolls a 9 on three dice to only take one wound. I try to cast flickering fire on the other attack bike but it is denied. I shoot the bike with hellfire gaze and of course miss. We roll to see if the game goes on and it comes up a one.
Maelstrom Dark Angels 8 Daemons 7

End of Game 1

End of Game 2

Daemons and Dark Angels tie primary
Dark Angels win Secondary
Daemons have Line Breaker and Slay the Warlord
Dark Angels have First Blood and Line Breaker

Dark Angels win 5 to 2

Post Game Analysis
It came down to not be able to kill either attack bike in the last round. If I kill either of them I win the primary and at least tie the secondary. If it goes one more turn I probably win both. Oh well that’s the way the dice roll. I made a mistake in the beginning forgetting about the rad grenade. If I had put my daemon princes in the back the greater daemons probably could have withstood the alpha strike. As it was I think I won the exchange because I was able to quickly eliminate all his strong bike units. Either way it was a great game and came down to the last roll.

I don't know what happened to the pictures. If anyone could drop me a pm and let me know how to fix this. This was just a preliminary edit to see if it would work.
Thanks
Greg
