So I am getting ready to get into Malifaux and am trying to build a list.

I haven't bought anything yet but have decided on Neverborn. The guys at the shop recommended shooting for 35 as thats the most common list. What does Dakka think?

Just remember that list building in Malifaux is very different when compared to 40k or Warhachine.

In Malifaux, you build your list after you know the specific strategy/schemes you will be playing, as well as your opponent's faction.

As for what Zoraida likes, the wiki is a great place to look:

http://pullmyfinger.wikispaces.com/M2E+Zoraida

Common things I've seen with her are:
Voodoo Doll (of course, it's part of her signature playstyle)

Widow Weaver (Debuffs willpower, great with Pandora, the Dreamer, and Collodi too).

Silurids/Swamp Fiends /Other:
- The Bad Juju bomb is very popular with Neverborn, where you leap a Silurid across the board to tie up as much as you can, then force them to kill it or burn cards to disengage. Then, Bad Juju comes up if the lizard dies and causes mayhem. (In my last game, Juju paralyzed Lynch and a Convict Gunslinger that couldn't get past his terrifying).
- SpawnMother/Gupps. Super cheap leaping scheme runners (Gupps) and a big momma to lay them if you didn't feel like hiring them.
- McTavish. He's fantastic for 10SS and his gun is simply fantastic (and kind of slipped through the first beta), as it doesn't randomize and ignores armor.
- Bayou Gators. 5SS, can't interract, but devour whatever they can. Even better with McTavish.

Some Enthrall choices:
- Papa Loco - Dynamite, explosions, and being able to throw more dynamite with Zoraida's obey.
- Ototo - Melee beater, not much else.
- Samurai - Not as good with out their Ten Thunders Upgrades, but they add some nasty ranged options to Neverborn, which is rare outside of Mercenaries and Tuco

Yeah I have to echo the good Dr, you can't really net list or list build in Malifaux.

But first off, never take the doll, Zorida can summon it, so it's a waste of points IMO. And +1 for McTavish, he's a brilliant buy for 10SS. And he adds something ranged killy, which is always good!

I understand you build after senario, but I am not going to buy all the figures at once. I need to find a list that is going to start well, but also still use the charecters later down the line in games.

i will look at the McTavish as it seems you both support him, and thank you for the heads up on the Doll!!

My advice would be to aim for 50 SS. Perhaps 35 is common near you at the moment but 50 is the most common play size in general, and the point around which the game is balanced.

I always like the idea of gupps in a list with Juju. One way to negate juju is often to kill him and then not kill other swampfiends. Gupps give you a cheap option to kill yourself without sacrificing much. In addition they can also kill themselves on a trigger and you can get juju (I think) and a silurid out of the trade (doesn't happen often but it can.)

Start with the Zoraida crew box, you get most of what you want, and then add a box of waldgeist. You'll have an extra one in the meantime, and it should tide you over until the other minis are released in plastic (as the metal ones are bound to become harder and harder to find).

50SS is waay more balanced- summoners in particular are very strong in smaller games.

I agree that there's no list building in Malifaux, but you can eventually get a core of maybe 1/2-2/3 of you crew pretty stable and flavor the rest based on what's going on.

The only thing I'd watch out for in your list is that you've not not exceptional heavy hitters and your "line" models are quite expensive. Also, Zoraida absolutely loves things that add weird conditions (for her totem), so a Nurse would probably be a worthwhile buy.

You'll struggle to get McTavish btw dude, he's waaay down the queue for a model. Would be a cool modelling project though!

Another one for the 50SS>>35SS as well, it's perfectly balanced at 50. It's not too bad at 35, but some casters, especially summoner based, can dominate certain Schemes at 35.

While I will admit to having more experience with her 1.5 than 2e, I've found that zoraida (or really any master with obey and card control abilities) loves a teddy. Teddy is quick (doubly so if you're willing to invest in On Dreaming Wings), hits hard, and if you manage to stack your hand can reliably take out //at least// 1 model a turn. The only thing better than a flying Teddy backed up by Mama Z is the //threat presented by// a flying Teddy backed up by Mama Z. Although if you really like Bad Juju, you should really consider his Eternal Fiend upgrade. It allows you to play him a little more ballsy than you'd otherwise be able to.
