Hi all, after two years off from magic I am thinking about getting back into the modern setting of magic. Though I am a bit perplexed on where to start on a new deck. I really like to make something new and interesting. I been toying with the idea of making a white/red soldier burn deck but am having trouble with where to start. I am thinking on centering around boros and go from there but could use some help.

You might want to start some drafts just to get a feel for the current sets. Maybe ask some of your local players if you can play against them with some of their own decks, a lot folks are more than happy to show off their creations. I think if you want to go rogue with your own decks, simply getting experience is the way to go. Otherwise folks aren't going to be able to do much but link you to popular builds.

Edit: White weenie type decks are generally easy as feth to make since its super simple. (all the smalls!)
