The goal is tabletop! (Not that I'm capable of better)

Some problems: The transfers. I chopped off the sword handle to give it more room
to fit, but I didn't straighten them out.

The flesh tones look wrong. I went for dark and came up with something that looked
like a burn victim. I blame using a task lamp and not checking the color in both room
light and task light.

I didn't paint pupils so the eyes look zombie-ish.

I know there's more. What do you say?

Did you get those transfers yet, btw?

The skin isn't too bad. Consider taking some dark fleshtone and some 'tan' or dwarf flesh and doing a quick and light brush-over to lighten/naturalize the skintone...

Good deal!

Those are the transfers in questions. I put them on last night!

Thanks, Yair!

You could use some setting solutions for those decals, as described here .

Thats a good quality for tabletop minis. You would be the envy of many people who claim their stuff to be "Tabletop quality".

I think that the easiest way to make model look better is with the base.
This means, take the time to get some smaller gravel, paint it, paint the base rim, highlight the gravel, and glue on static grass.
This takes very little time and goes a long way towards making your model look better. I highly suggest spending a bit more time on basing.

Those are nice Malfred.  You definately have an above average tabletop quality,  which is nothing to sneeze at.

I also agree that a little hightlighting on the skin would be a welcome addition.

I like the basing.  However, my one small beef with it is that you can see some black on the top of the base still.  I like the black around the edges, that's fine.  But seeing the black around the top rim of the base just looks kind of wierd to me.  But if you're satisfied with it, stick with it.

Overall, nice job.

Hordini, the skin IS highlighted, just very badly. I'm still learning to feather and my
task lamp made the highlights look more subtle than they were.

ESDK: It's a good idea. I hear about it every few months on Dakka and file it away
each time. Right now I can't see myself making the time to do it. Some day, though.

ph34r: How do you make static grass stay up? They always land in clumps for me.

ph34r and djcolorcrayons: I went for simple. Glue down the flock before priming and
make sure to spray the base. When I finished the mini I painted the flock scorched
brown Vallejo GC. Then I got a bag of GW gravel (my brother's had this around for
years) and crazy glued it down.

I used to paint the rocks on the bases. I find I no longer have the patience.

Next time I'll be sure to get a picture of the weapons so you could see how RED they
are...and very lazily unhighlighted.

Quick fixes to make them better

- Paint the edge of the base. The basing material actually has enough different colors to look decent as is. Maybe put in just a bit of static grass.
- Different hair colors for the models. Variety is good... and the DA recruit from MANY worlds... so it's fluffy too.
- For any future models, water down the skin wash more (looks like you washed the skin), and only wash areas where there are creases/details.
- A little more effort here... but hand painting the dark angel insignia isn't THAT hard. It's 10 straight lines and 2 curved ones. And I know, as I ran into the same problem with my dark angel scouts. Decal is too large... and deathwing decals are REALLY hard to come by anymore.

All in all... decent table top quality.

I'll do that Ki. I tried painting the base edge but for some reason it wasn't
sticking. That doesn't happen often.

nice work Malf, only thing i suggest is thinning of the skin wash, i don't use washes myself because i can't be bothered to fiddle about with the consistency!

DC: As I said earlier, I didn't use a skin wash. I painted the highlighting on and painted in the
recesses. I just have to use less drastic color changes, I think.

BloodyT: I don't think my mad skills have anything to do with how neat plastic scouts are, but
thanks

The only major issue regarding TT quality in my opinion, besides the fact that base and 3 colors is worthy....

...Is that your highlights, as said before, are drastically different than the base colors. Either as you said, use

closer matching highlights, or just base them with lighter colors and use the same highlights. Your color scheme

is good, as is your line/location accuracy, just need a lil work on the color transitions/highlights.

Just make The Lion proud!
