I started playing
40k back in the 90s and loved it, a few of my friends played it too so we had a good group of us that would have a lot of fun with it. I used to love painting the minis and putting as much detail as I could get into the little suckers. Eventually we all became students and needed our spare cash for booze and cars and all of us drifted away. My armies have lain in slumber in my folks attic for a good 16 years or so at least, and I can barely remember what I have up there.
So I have been thinking of selling my minis for a good few years, but have never quite been able to bring myself to do it, in the last couple of weeks I've been scouring eBay and pricing up my models to see what their worth is, and in doing so I have kind of fallen in love with them again, as well as some of the excellent new models that are now available. (How Sexy does the forgeworld stuff look!)
Anyway, I've now decided that my best course of action is to strip the paint off my old minis and have some fun repainting them in some new colour schemes. I have a couple of squads of Guardsmen, and a pile of old Space Marines, all plastic or lead. I've read that soaking them in Dettol can ease the paint off the models gently enough to avoid damage, so that's my next step. I've also seen a few bits and bobs I want to order from various modeling sites to makes some modifications. I've fallen in love with the Death Korps of Krieg and want to mod all my
IG to have Gas masks, (Are you my mummy?)
So I can see a few of my Iron Guard getting decapitated in the next week or two in preparation. I'm sourcing the gas masks from some non
GW sites that also have some great contemporary Military figures. Do people ever use non
GW products as
IG? is it frowned upon? Or are they ok as long as they are modded well?
Anyway, once I have built up a nice little force all modded and painted, I will either sell them all, or get back into the gaming side of the hobby too. Knowing me it will likely be the latter.
