I am currently building a couple Rough Rider units for my IG army but have run into a bit of a head scratcher. I am using SM bike(stripprd down) for the rides as my army is a mechanized force. The problem I am encountering is how to model the hunting lances. I feel that the ones GW makes are too primitive and look out of place but I can't really think of something  more modern looking to replace them. Any suggestions?

a)What box actually comes with the lance arms?
b) why use lances?Give them a sabre or a crossbow with explosive tipped-bolts.Or something to detract from the lance thing(unless thats what they really -always- have is the lance then you can only do something to the tip).Why not put a fist on it?Like in the medieval times,a fist or a small skull.

a) The Rough Rider box, if they still sell it, does. I'll probably bit order the lances and paint them an appropiate "hi-tech" color
b) I try not to confuse my opponent's too much, that's why I'm sticking to lances

What about something like Warmachine Khador's Iron Fang Pikemen? Maybe use some plastic rod (heh) or grenades and mount (heh) them to the front, to represent explosive packs for the tips.

What about a Rifle type gun with an underslung Grenade Launcher? They fire the Grenades as they first charge into combat.

If you're planning on still using Lances, (and since you're using bikes, I assume the riders are Cadians) bit order the Lances arms from the Tallern rough rider models.  With the wires and stuff they have running along them, they certainly don't look primitive, and the shoulder construction of the Tallerns looks remarkably like the shoulder pads of a Cadian soldier. Unless you know what your looking, I doubt anyone would notice unless they picked the model up and held it an inch from their nose.
