If I were the 40k Overfiend - by Madness!

I've played 40k sinced '99 and have played with and against most armies since then. I love
the game immeasurably and want people continue to play this game.

But I cannot ignore how broken this game has become. I see people leaving because they if they don't have the most mathematically proven army of the week, they are roadkill in even a local tournament environment.

The game is designed to do one thing and one thing only:sell the latest greatest miniatures.
Even a hardened player like myself will struggle against a snot nosed kid with a decurion/ Latest Eldar brokeness. This nonsense is going to go too far.

People will leave the hobby because they simply can't compete AT ALL. This is short term thinking by the company and will backfire. Indeed it already has to some extent.

What can we do to stop this? I have a list:

1.Eliminate formations
2. Lords of War would be for 2000 points or more - I've seen these in 600 point lists, seriously! Also Knight Titans would become Lords of War.
3. Jink saves would be reduced to 5+, and all bonuses to saves of any kind would be eliminated. No 2+ cover saves!
a. Holofields would provide a reroll of first failed jink roll per turn.
b. Daemon of Nurgle should be +1 Toughness
4. Warp charge required for Summoning powers would be doubled.
5. Challenges would be once per game and only between Independent Characters.
It should be a rare spectacle, not a cheap way to pick off of a Sargent.
6. Eliminate the use of more than 1 CAD/Unbound. Who want to play against my Tyranid/Astramilitarum/Ork army? or just 200 lascannons teams?
7. Modify Warpstorm table and eliminate Grimoire of True Names(seriously not fun 2 ++ invulnerable saves)
8. Flyers should be hit on 5+ Hoping you get a skyfire nexus is not fun! Also, farmers hit aircraft with shotguns, not to mention RPG's.
9. Eliminate paperwork of any kind. Watching your opponent roll 30 times on different charts and having to write it all down = waaay not fun.
10. Just call everyone in combat "All In". having to move each model 3 inches at initiate and then at the end of combat is a pain if you have the green tide.
It will also speed the game up quite a bit.
11. Eliminate Ignores Cover as a special rule. Doesn't add anything positive to the game and balances the elimination of bonuses to cover.

I'm no gaming messiah and I don't claim to be. Just a guy in the wilderness with ideas who would like to be heard. Do you have some better ideas? Post them, love to hear them. Lets hammer it out Dakkaites.

Did a nurgle daemon player steal your girlfriend or something? Most of those changes would totally gimp my Nurgle army.

I would eliminate formations, period. The fact they're usually tied to bundle packs doesn't do much to convince me they were added for balance *cough*.

There's always the option to make Cover a hit-modifier rather than a save.

Agreed, Magic Juggler. Make 1 NO Formations. 11th might be Ignores Cover isn't a thing now.

Robisagg, Do your games even challenge you as it stands now? Enjoying your 2+ cover save while jinking, followed by a 4+ feel no pain? Think of all the cheese the rest of the changes eliminated. No titan armies at 1000 points. Flyers are useful, but not impossible to kill. Regular armies are playable, and you don't need all the crud to beat them. Just play well.

They do, there's a lot of ignores cover out there; at least in my area (lookin' at you, tau/eldar)

I do agree with restricting superheavies though, GW should take a nod from FW and make LoW a 25% restriction of total points. That I can get behind

Ignore Cover could be:reduce all cover save to 5+ if already better.
I agree with the Super Heavy and Gargantuan Creature only for big game, 2000+ or just for Apoc game only.
No multiple Detach armies, you can add only one Allied Detachment and one Formation.
I would change Invisibility: instead of 6, invisible units can be hit at 5+ and with Tenmplate weapon.
Any reroll with a result of 1, 2 or 3 is a failure, I'm getting bored of That rerollable 2+

Madness, the idea I had been experimenting with was:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/641944.page

Basically, rather than "Alternate FOC detachments", "A detachment made of Formations", or "Swapping units across the FOC", the idea I was working with was:
-Select a "role" to focus on for your FOC. So your FOC could be Troop-heavy, FA-heavy, Elite-heavy, or HS-heavy.
-Depending on the emphasis, your army gets a different bonus.

Mind you, I wrote this before Eldar, so it would make sense to make Guardian Jetbike weapons a 1-in-3 models bonus.
