Hey all, I am just starting warmachine and after bouncing around a bit I have decided on playing khador. This is a 35 point list( 41 with lrusk's +5 if I understand that right) that I mainly picked because of aesthetics and the feel I got from reading their entrees. However, in truth I have no idea what I am doing, so I am hoping that you all can take a look, get a feel for what I am trying to do, and give me some advice.

lrusk with a dog
10 kommandos with 2 flame throwers
10 winter guard with 2 rockets
3 man o war bombardiers
1 demolisher or a decimator (cant decide)
4 widowmakers
( have 2 points left)

Which jack should I pick, are either decent? Can I use the demolisher to kill other big nasty things reliably at all?

eIrusk is a good caster, so good start there.

For jacks, I think the Decimator is the better choice. All the things Irusk can do for it just benefit it more. The bond gives it some extra def, and tactical supremacy, energizer, or fire for effect can really help its movement and shooting. Battle lust is even superior on it I'd say, since you can load it up with three focus, and only have to worry about possibly boosting the first attack roll (sustained attack and extra damage dice hurt). Plus once you make attacks with the Demolisher, the arm goes down to 17, which will hurt on any counterattack.

For infantry you might need to make some hard choices. If that's what you want to use, that's one thing, but you're pretty close to making the fabled "Winter guard death star", which is hard to pass up. For that though, you'd need to add the officer (2 points) and kovnik Josef (solo, 2 points). It'd be easiest to take those points out of the Man o wars or kommandos, so your choice. If you do, that gives you winter guard that are def 14 from bob and weave, boosted attack rolls (or +3 str), and tough as long as they're within 10 inches of Irusk. Plus whatever spells you put on them.

Here is my 50pt pIrusk list. Its heave on the infantry with support that can get it safely up the field.

Kommandant Irusk (*6pts)
* Spriggan (10pts)
* War dog (1pts)
Great Bears of Gallowswood (5pts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Black Dragon Officer & Standard (2pts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Black Dragon Officer & Standard (2pts)
Tactical Arcanist Corps (4pts)
Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts)
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist (2pts)
Iron Fang Kovnik (2pts)
Iron Fang Kovnik (2pts)
Kell Bailoch (2pts)
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor (2pts)
Widowmaker Marksman (2pts)

The TAC are there to help keep Irusk alive with clouds. Kell Bailoch is basically the 6th Widow Maker (only better). and with 7 sniper shots you should be able to remove targets that need to get gone. Orin Midwinter is just plane fun to have walk behind the lines of IFP and give his bubble of no spells and shoot off an electro-leap when they are not looking. Gorman is well.....Gorman.

Disclaimer, I don't play khador, so this is from my experiences playing against them.

Just a quick clarification, Battle Lust is warrior model/unit so it cannot be put on a warjack. Between the two jacks you have picked though, I do agree that the decimator is probably better.

I would find a way to get the winter guard officer and kovnik Joe in there, my gut says by dropping the man o wars. That's about all the feedback I can give, but you might want to throw something in that helps deal with higher armor as the list seems a bit on the pillow fisted side.

So I took your comments and used them in my first game. Its was a simple 15 point proxy with a friend of mine who is also just starting warmachine. The game gave me a taste of the way warmachine plays and so I have revised my list, a lot. Here it is, please tell me what you think. The 35 point is my long term plan, and the 15 point list is what I plan on getting first. The objective is to be a general all rounder list.

Friend plays cryx by the way, and turned my poor winter guard into acid sludge with Asphyxious in our proxy.

15 points

Vladimir Tzepesci, Great Prince of Umbrey
1 Grolar
10 kommandos( or iron fang pikemen)
1 mortor

35 points

Vladimir Tzepesci, Great Prince of Umbrey
10 assault kommandos
10 iron fang pikemen (black dragon officer and standard)
3 iron fang Uhlans
1 Grolar
1 mortor
minimum battle mechaniks squad- I think that includes 3 of them
1 war dog

When playing against Cryx you want to look at things that "remove from play" and something that can grant magical weapons like Aiyan and Holt.

As to playing Vlad3 I would go with all the horses or you will basically have no feat.

Something like this maybe.

Vladimir Tzepesci, Great Prince of Umbrey (*5pts)
* Grolar (9pts)
* War dog (1pts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Iron Fang Pikemen Officer & Standard (2pts)
Iron Fang Uhlans (Leader and 4 Grunts) (11pts)
Kovnik Markov (4pts)
Manowar Drakhun (with dismount) (5pts)

Works much better at 50pts though.
